Boredom sounds.
Trying to bust myself out of a sound building slump, by forcing myself to build things out of... whatever. Today, whatever, is this: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... D=10413368Reminds me of Pavement in bits, i think. Maybe the bassline.

Re: Boredom sounds.
I would also like to add that i rather enjoy the pseudofuzz on this. The Crowther Hotcake clone i built sounds like an awesome light OD at anything below about 3:00 on the drive knob. But above that it gets rapidly, exponentially, and surprisingly, darker and crankier, culminating in a bizarre fuzzthing with the control at max. Like three tracks of that with some EQ to cut low end out of two of them(and even still the fuzz is drowning out most everything else there ). As ever, everything into my top-of-the-line: Crate GX15R.

Re: Boredom sounds.
I get a Blur vibe from it personally, but I really dig this. I really dig this actually.
Edit: Well from the cleaner bits.
The heavier bits are all sorts of nasty fun. I like the fuzziness too. Kinda making me consider one of them hot cakes.

Re: Boredom sounds.
Now that you say it, i hear that too. And yeah Mike, there is definitely too much fuzz. Sometimes one just has to do that. You should have heard it before i EQed it. It was literally nothing BUT fuzz for those whole sections.

Re: Boredom sounds.
How do you usually go about EQing your fuzziness? I get the same thing as well and have a hard time reigning it in. I also don't think the Orange TT likes the Muff at quieter volumes.

Re: Boredom sounds.
For EQing the fuzz, i just go with whatever works. I use that Reaper ReaFIR eq and push stuff around until what i want comes out of the mix. One thing that can help sometimes is running the fuzz INTO an OD like a tubescreamer that will cut the bass. This can help reduce that overbass cancellation thing that happens when you slam what is basically an angry squarewave into an amp. But when i have multiple layers of fuzz, usually what i do, is pan them wide-ish, and cut out a bunch of the bass on one or two of them. Actually i always remove low end from guitars, but in the case of ridiculous fuzz ones, i take a bit more. Leave the fizzle there, and leave SOMEthing low endy, but mainly bump the mids(by cutting the rest). Let the bass give the low end, and the fuzz give the "flavour" I don't know across the board though, different fuzzes need different jiggerings. More universally though, the main thing (IMO) is to do the EQing while listening primarily with it sitting in a full mix. If you just do it listening to the guitar solo-ed, you will often come up with a sound that impedes on something else when you unmute the rest of the tracks. The solo-ed fuzz, once EQ-ed, might not necessarily sound all that great by itself at all. It doesn't have to anyhow. Same sort of treatment often needs doing with certain types of synth sounds, and pretty much for the same reason. The sound just takes up too much real estate sometimes.

Re: Boredom sounds.
I didn't render it, but it basically sounded like it does now, but the drums and bass disappeared like i had crushed them with a compressor. So it was just like a throbby sort of fuzzfuzz mess.

I like it very much. I get the Blur comparison. I also like the too-much-fuzz

Re: Boredom sounds.
That thing produces a damn cool tone. It 's like a happy sunny day, and then a happy sunny day after you've fallen into a pile of poop/mud.
Drum recording setup for this one...?

Re: Boredom sounds.
This was recorded at the same time as the one in the other thread("Something that i took way too long to realize was shitty... ") so the setup is the same as outlined in that thread. Basically Glyn Johns 4-mic, with not too much EQ or compression(compared to 'normal' for me!), except for the snare close mic which is a bit more slammed with a limiter. It is there in more detail in the other thread though.
