Definitely keep the Charvel.

Go to a store, they should have an AC30, and play some Teles, Strats and pretty much everything through it. Go with what you like.

For a psychedelic stuff, buying all the separate pedals is going to pricey and give you a huge pedal board. Consider something like the Line 6 M9 which gives you tap tempo for all engaged effects plus a looper.



As for writing, remember most of the psyche greats were on drugs. So, don't overthink it. I can think of a few psyche songs that were just simple two or three chord songs. Barre chords totally work.

Learn how to play all of the Beatles' songs. You will be surprised to learn that many of them have quite strange chord progressions, put together in strange ways. Many of them move along in a certain direction, only to make an abrupt left turn into something else. Sometimes they do it just with a key change. Sometimes with an orchestra crashing in.

There aren't a lot of rules. Nor are drugs required to write them.

One thing the Beatles just about never utilized, was anything remotely flashy. Their stuff is built of simple components put together carefully and interestingly.

If you want to learn how to do it, learn how they did it. Learn as many of their songs as possible. And learn how the vocals bounce through the tunes. There is more going on than it seems. And yet, there is often less.

I can't play for shit drunk either. Probably a big part of the reason i don't drink much these days. Like, aside from brokeness.

I actually am pretty capable of playing whilst fukt, but I suck to begin with so take it for what it's worth.

One thing that runs through almost all of the (good) sixties psych bands, is that they wrote good songs FIRST, and whatever "psychedelic" flavorings had more to do with how they were recorded, than with how they were written.

Most of the sixties bands only used clean amps, fuzz, and SOMETIMES, delay. THAT IS IT. The rest is basically song structure, and recording experiments.

It's all about the fundamentals. Like Women's basketball, but entertaining.

a current idea i am working on, just mellotron and organ, no bass, drums, or guitar yet. just a chord progression i thought was kind of cool... this one of kinda mgmt influenced. how is it?
