 Re: New Fenders
Yeah, kind of funky. I wish they didn't all have humbuckers and strat bridges though.
I do like the pseudostangs though. For $800 i would probably just hold out for the only slightly more expensive '65 RI one they do though. Which, by the way, since when does the 65 RI cost that much?!! I thought they were more like 700?

 Re: New Fenders
and honestly, they're try to get mileage out of those RI wide range pup, which are shit compared to most pups and especially next to the real wide range pups. The Tele/strat one if they are wired that same as the Squier 51's I think split the bridge with a pull pot coil tap, although maybe that was something I did to my 51 when I had one.

 Re: New Fenders
Yeah aren't they actually like a high output ceramic normal humbucker pickup? As opposed to the wacky oddballness of the real deal old wide rangers.

 Re: New Fenders
The Teles should have a big-ass metal plate for a bridge. Is Fender the new Gibson? (I would take one of the Thinlines and swap out the pickups (and see if I can't put a Tele bridge on it) were the finish cool enough)

 Re: New Fenders
Gibson is making an awful lot of money from their terrible choices. Perhaps the business model was just too attractive to ignore? We'll know for sure if Fender starts making anything out of rainbow colored plywood.

 Re: New Fenders
they are actually just shit.
I didn't test them with a meter, but the output I have found very low. I like it ok in the neck postision, for teh melloes, but in the bridge it does not do any good. My Deluxe had them both 72's had them replaced.

 Re: New Fenders
yes teles need that big bridge, I really would dig trying out one of Guitar Fetish's Tele humbucker bridges. Probably better to just buy one of his Xaviers with that bridge so I don't route the living shit out of one of my babies.

 Re: New Fenders
How do they sound in the bridge? Murky and weak?

 Re: New Fenders
yes, very weak, and not like a just underpowered weak. Murky is a good description. This is going back about 3 years though. I remember really hating the pup and I swapped mine out with an Ibanez V8 or V7 and it was much improved, if that tells you anything. In these pawn shop models the WR pups are in the neck though, I have left my current 72 with it in the neck, I get a dirty cheap tone. I use it for rthe opening rhythm on Jumpin Jack Flash. Get that KR through an old radio tone

Re: the Ibanez pickups- yikes! I never liked those.
I suppose if you want to sound like Keith RIchards through a clock radio, that's your ticket. Sometimes you need that sound.

 Re: New Fenders
I know you don't like 'em, I never had a problem with them, they're just cheap DiMarzio's. And yes KR+ Clock Radio = 2 super huge hits. How the fuck do you make tht happen?????

 Re: New Fenders
I'd take the blue or red offset one.

 Re: New Fenders
The Pawn Shop series.
Why buy a Squire '51 guitar from the pawn shop when you can buy a brand new one from Fender for hundreds more?

 Re: New Fenders
I had a '51.
It was meh. Mine had a birdseye maple neck though. If it felt better I would have kept it and just parted out the body, but it was not that nice.
