Post On the subject of the Rap Battle...
I just stumbled across these, and hadn't seen them before.

There are a bunch of them actually.

Yeah, I'd like to go back to the first year of 6th form (higher education after you graduate high school/mandatory education), take some more useful subjects including design/engineering and then do something more useful at university. The media industry is impossible to get into and I regret taking the uni course I did :red:

I know eh. I've been observing the industry all this time and I feel the same. Schools crank out more students every semester than there are jobs.

I am disenchant. I'm going to go learn a trade this September.

Yup, nobody I know from uni has a job in the industry, and then we'll have this years graduates to compete with. At least I've been doing something kinda related so I have about a years' experience. I'm coming over to Canada for a while this summer hopefully anyway :D

My girlfriend and I are both entering the media industry :red:

She is getting job offers out the ass though.

I get internship offers as well, most that lead to pretty decent positions. Exactly what branch of the media are you trying to enter todge? Maybe you should seek employment in the US? We practically do nothing but consume media nonstop.

I've been trying video post-production but may go back to trying to get into motion graphics and 3D modelling/animation stuff. Hopefully I'll find something in Canada :D

Yeah 3D modeling and animation will always be in demand as long as Disney continued to make movies

I quit art school to do prepress. It pays the bills. Mostly. It's the odd thing where you have to hire an artist for a technical position. My clients are A-list- international banks, professional sports teams (if you're in The States, I make your season ticket packages), museums, major corporations, now a lot of universities, etc. But ultimately I'm a turd polisher. I set things up for production mostly 'cause their designers don't know how or missed a spot. If they really cheap out instead of paying a proper designer I do their shit 'cause it's cheaper to pay my hourly rate at my company. (Any of you guys use HSBC bank? It might be a bit dated by now, but you've probably seen my work, the big displays either backlit or done on the nice watercolor paper, which was a pain color-wise; the flesh tones in the photos got really oversaturated on press. Wells Fargo, too, which is more recent.)

Again, I digress.

I didn't realize your company worked with such large clients snaxie, that's pretty badass. My brother also has big clients that kinda crack me up. His company sells/handles online ads and ad space. He just recently signed DirectTV to his client list ...

He probably makes more than the rest of my family combined.

Part of it is 'cause banking is big here. I don't know why, but there's some bigdeal banks that work around here. My father was VP of marketing for HSBC for many years. :idk: The rest, I think, is because I've worked at places that do specialty things printing-wise, and it's cheaper to have it done in Buffalo than Toronto or NYC. I have probably proofread your bank account information, which is very tedious. I suspect I am the only person who's read some of this shit the whole way through sometimes. I am the tech here now: http://www.colad.com/whycolad/our-clients.htm  .

I like a lot of the branding stuff. The Cartoon network and PGA Tour stuff are nifty. Also, I like the Milliken Swatch kit.

I genuinely like doing the 3d stuff there. A lot of the things they make are very visually interesting. I've made a lot of shit over the years, and the nifty packaging is up there with doing books (I liked doing books; I got to read them as part of my work. You're gonna pay me to read history books and academic stuff? Sign me up, kthx.) and the big backlit displays.

There's at least one that should still be up in the Buffalo airport, it's for some black Baptist church, kids on a playground with the pastor... whomever designed that didn't take the live area of the thing into account and those aren't the bottom of the kids' legs and feet, I drew those in in Photoschnappes. If you're at Monte Carlo, some of the elevators- those are closeups of styrofoam, manipulated. Etcetera. It's actually cool work sometimes; I just wish I was in a real city where it would pay me something.

Well. you are not far from a few real cities, so who knows? Experience in the world of branding and packaging, not to mention your artistic abilities, is probably not the easiest thing to come by. As long as your company isn't trying to keep you all to themselves :cop:
