If we were serious more often, I think we'd have to shoot ourselves in the face. Take it from a smart prettyboy who's completely left-field-nuts. Some of our wisdom comes from having been there, done that, and eff't up anyhow; the sort of things you can only really... learn by doing.

I'll be serious for a moment: the best thing you can do for yourself is to be in control of your own world. Or, rather, being able to be, as much as possible. This doesn't mean being a domineering asshole, it means being irreplaceable at whatever roles you fill.

I'll stop being serious and go back to being a snarky freakshow now.

i guess i have done that then, essentially. Music. That's the role i fill that can't be replaced. it's the only thing i'm good at, though not to be cocky but i am pretty damn good at it. how can i use music to make a life for myself though?

Give up all personal relationships, move to LA or NYC and become a session player. Beyond that, get, if not one-in-a-million lucky, at least the one-in-whatever chance it takes to make a living as a musician. There's that, know someone or blow someone. The surest route to making money as a rock musician is probably in a popular mainstream cover band or a regional tribute band. It is not as an original alternative/indie artist or a producer/engineer, for which you will expect to make little or nothing or lose money for any gig or project you're on.

Being in a local semi-underground band is where it's at, anyway.

Easiest way ever to make a living making music is to be born rich, and then, ideally, pretty.

If you are really aiming to maximize your chances, rich, pretty, and female.

You are young, and this is not really the best crowd for encouraging the young. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to get off the internet. The internet is where people who should be doing something else go instead. Nearly without fail.

You still need to tour this coast.
