I've been playing out long enough to have banged your mom a few dozen times and the thing I have found that when you are playing to an audience generally they will like music they already know, or music that one of their friends tell them they like, or they will be chock full of drugs and find something they like. Yes you will have musicians and a few people really into music to want to hear something new but overall you will be disappointed in how little an audience gives a shit about music unless they know it. So promote them using drugs and you will get more people to go to your shows.
