Snaxie's other other band, The Forgotten Ones.

The previously mentioned drum setup: Ludwig Epic series 6 piece. Paiste Rude hats, Colorsound ride (I forgot and mistakenly attributed it as a Rude), shitty china, Zildjian A Custom and Meinl crashes. AKG D112 in the kick aimed at the beater, MXL R144 ribbon at the shell, Sennheiser e609 outside on the beater side, and a DDrum trigger to trigger an expander and we blended in the trigger itself for click. Beta 57 on the snare, 57s on toms, MXL v67gs for overheads in Glyn Johns configuration.

Guitars are :snax: FX DIed. Mesa Dual Rec model up the middle and Dumble  L/R. The faux-Dumble is overdubbed. Gibson Shred-X Explorer with Duncan Blackouts. Bass is Jazz DIed live through my Pod XT with the drums. It will get replaced.

This is the first time we'd played in a fair bit, and our drummer hadn't touched a kit in a month and a half, so this is sloppy on all our parts. But it's a demo.

Only processing on the drums is a compressor on the snare and the expander on the kick. I think Waves SSL G channel? Assuming I'm remembering right. There may be other compression but I don't think so on this version? No EQ though. Going from memory here, and it's not my rough mix, so... Either way, it sounds an awful lot like the drum stem I have.

Re-upsampled from 128k 'cause I faded out some noodling at the end.

Sounds fantastiche

Drums are killer. I like how everything sounds now. Bass is going through a POD? no shit? You got a real nice tone out of that pod.

Yep, Pod XT on the Tube Preamp setting with a modeled Rat for a little more grit. No cab modeling. It hit a Groove Tubes DI first to split the signal, but it sounds to me like the Pod itself. The GT DI does add some heft to direct bass. Then something after that into a MOTU inyourface. (I couldn't say which one; he's got two hooked up for 24 channels straight in and various random preamps.) Mighta just gone into the patchbay and straight to a line in on one of the MOTUs if they have line ins in the back? I forget which ones he has. We just jammed through headphones and some guitar layers were overdubbed after the fact with the :snax: FX.

YES. One thing I have to say is that I woulda cut the intro bit in half. I was expecting the heavy shit to come a a bit earlier.

I like this. Sevendust vibe.

I'll see if I can't dredge up some of the earlier versions of this for comparison. This one was resurrected from one of our old bands that didn't quite get off the ground right. The intro's always been long- it was originally an open-tuned acoustic, a keyboard and some hand percussion. The length of it probably made more sense in the context of the original version, too, where there was this mellow jam in the bridge that sounded a lot like Dead Can Dance. I kinda like the long intro still though because the tom work and wah sweeps and harmonics remind me of something Tool would do.

Re: Sevendust- the sustained semi-palm mutes always make me think of that whole groove-metal thing. :nods:

There will be more of this stuff forthcoming. This is by far the least nuts playing-wise. Most of what we've done is surprisingly more thrashy than doomy, with some groovy dissonant parts. There's oftentimes more melody in the bass than in the guitars, intentionally- it's just an odd feel we happen to have taken a liking to. We're thinking of keeping it an OTT power trio and doing harmony vocals a la King's X or AIC, but more evil.
