That much I knew, even having come of age in the '90s, at which point he was more a celebrity and a total musical lightweight.

For whatever reason that reminds me of some mid-'80s footage you've probably seen of Eric Clapton with Phil Collins behind the kit (I think it's Nathan East on bass, don't know the keyboardist) playing some old Cream tunes, at, like, the nadir of their powers. For a brief moment, they actually rocked.

Also, Red is fucking brilliant. There are multiple copies of Red and Discipline in this house.

Red is definitely a masterpiece.
Starless never fails to give me chills, I have always wanted record a really cool abridged cover of it.
I definitely have an obsession with the idea of re-interpreting songs that I love.

However, I really dig the first era of Crimson (with Lake as frontman) but my allegiance lies with Belew.
I would like to see clips of that era of Crimson performing material from Red that isn't just instrumental..
I think Adrian could pull that shit off in terms of vocals.

Adrian Belew is a really good singer. I think his quirkiness kinda makes one forget that at times re: his vocals. It's more obvious with his guitar work since it's often so over-the-top you can't help but notice he has mad chops. I think he's underrated as a vocalist in the conventional sense. Or, rather, not rated as a vocalist simply by virtue of being in King Crimson, where no one notices there's actually singing- and quite good singing at that- because the rest of the band is throwing down so hard "quite good" flies totally under the radar.

Also, I'd add that I think King Crimson won at progressive rock. They're appreciated by heshers and hipsters alike. Their credentials as sidemen are utterly unfuckwithable. And they've singularly failed at being regrettable and embarrassing. They're not "epic" in the literal sense, high concept and high drama. I can't think of anyone really hating on Crimson, just people not getting them 'cause they're weird (and admitting it). Even Robert Fripp comes across more as dour and strange than pretentious-wanky. For a band that on the surface is pretty inaccessible- they sound like they're from Neptune half the time- they seem hip in all circles- if you know about these guys, you know what's up. Musician's musicians, to be sure, but in the best way.

They are certainly men of high regard. It's also quite remarkable that most past members went on to do great things of their own.

I am with you guys in the Crimson love. But I gotta say... a lot of the 'random noise jams and silence' tracks are whack, IMO. I like the one on The Crimson King though... it's like an audio organism, slowly changing its moods. But other ones, like on Starless and Bible Black or Lark's Tongues, personally I'm not seeing any redeeming qualities.

The droning dissonant chordal bit reminds me of Killing Joke. What an awesome song this is. And it's mostly just open E.

They remind me of an amalgam of Collide and Garbage, id est, Snaxie, I think you'd dig this.
