Re: The best example of indie rock guitar playing I've heard They're alternative, dammit.  I haven't heard the Modest Mouse stuff with Johnny Marr; I forgot it existed, actually. Is it worth my time? I like the Modest Mouse stuff from the early part of the '00s and I heart The Smiths.

Re: The best example of indie rock guitar playing I've heard Snaxo, I think I prefer the Johnny Marr stuff a bit having just downloaded their first album and then the one with him on it. It's a bit livelier and happier sounding. Lovely guitar toanzz as well

Re: The best example of indie rock guitar playing I've heard Modest Mouse stepped up the dance beats and catchy hooks with Johnny Marr. The man is a rhythm guitar machine, and definitely brings a bit of Smiths flavor to the Modest Mouse formula.
I really really like the new MM stuff with him. It isn't like their old stuff, they have really evolved a lot, but it's very good.
We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank surprised me a lot. After Good News for People Who Love Bad News, I didn't have super high expectations (though I do like that album, it wasn't anything mind-blowing) for the album, but it delivers.

Sonic Yoof is one of those many of my most favourite bands, that i don't know how to play a single thing by. Actually, that is true of most bands. I never learn other people's shit, almost especially when i think it is superawesome. It is almost like magicians to me. I don't want to know the tricks. I like to be able to pretend that my favourite sounds are just black magic/alchemy. Incantations. Secret shit.

Mainly, the problem with learning 'Yoof songs is that everything is in a different goddamn tuning. That shit gets old fast, unless you roll like they do with like 20 different guitars.

Thurston's droning open D tuning on The Eternal is nifty though, I even wrote a song or two in it.
