Listening back to what i recoarded the other day, actually think i am just going to paste two sloppy takes together into one slightly less sloppy take, rather than wait til monday to track more drums.

Now i have to figure something bassly for it.

Rundown of how you captured the drumkit?

Yar, mainly i was trying to stay away from what the guitar part actually... was? There are several chords that i decided to pretend were... different chords. To try to make it as different than the real version as it could be stretched, while still having the reverse drumjam guitars loud enough to hear.

Drums are:

•2 MXL990s as Glyn Johns OHs.
•CAD TSM411 Snare mic, basically on shell, with experimental gobo of 1" foamcore trying to see what can be done for blocking some more hats out. (I am also experimenting with more dampening on the head, i was running it too open for the specific Evans head i have, which i have decided is too ringy to work correctly in most of the stuff i am likely to record.)
•CAD KBM412 all up in the kick.
•2 CAD TSM411s close up on bofe racktoms.
•Shure PG58 close up on floortom.

I ran another PG58 as a room mic for shits and giggles, but it sounded rotten, so it is mostly muted on this. It does show up in the very last section though, kind of for effect as a louder/uglierer.

Also, the mosquito bit in the middle is just the same bass harmony parts from the intro, copypasta'd and pitchshift+24semitones/bitcrush'd/reverbed-all-to-shit.

Those CAD tom mics don't sound half bad.

What i find with all of the CAD mics in the drum pack i have, is that they all require a fair bit of EQing to get things "right". The tom mics, i dump most of the middle out of, and boost the bottom and top of, with a couple notches in the low end to try to unmud things.

By themselves, the TSM411s are pretty midfocused, kind of SM57-y in a way, but with less apparent low end than the 57s. That is why i am using the PG58 on the floortom, and the third TSM411 instead on the snare. The snare doesn't need the low end(and benefits from the mids of the CAD). Conversely, the floortom was sounding a little too flattish with the TSM, which is unfortunate, because the mic is tiny and convenient as hell to do a floortom with with its little rim-mount clippy. The PG58 isn't that bassy a mic at all either, but it is considerably more so than the TSM. Can't boost (or cut, for that matter) a frequency if the mic doesn't pick it up.

Oh, and because of the sheer number of basstracks on this(five deep in the intro i think) the bass levels are pretty inconsistent on that mix. I just had listened to it too many times yesterday to hear it.

Nah, more the spastic electronica crunchdrum direction. Between dying of heat exhaustion and working on me band's record I didn't get anything quality thrown down.

Now that I am home, I am going to rework the track with the drums Geoff sent me.
