I am reading this in bits and pieces:

It started out kind of blah and i wasn't quite sure where the author was headed with it, but has now progressed into a more interesting word-derivation/early language focus, so i can dig it.

Noted on that one, Chris. That is right up my alley.

If you haven't read this, you should; I can mail you my copy if you'd like:

Apparently there are more from this author as well.

Yo, i totally want that! I meant to grab those when i was bookstoreemployed, but oddly, i didn't actually wind up doing much reading during that timeframe. :red:

As for the one i am reading, you can have it when i am done if you want, but it is not all that great. I mean, it has just enough nerd in it that i will finish it, but i am a little disappointed that it doesn't have more nerd.

Partly, it seems to be trying to hammer the concept of the emergence of a Global English language, sort of a new world order, universal application type of thing. And i don't know exactly what the practical purpose of talking about the word exchange in those terms or from that perspective, is. I may be missing a big point, or maybe the author hasn't made one yet, but i am about halfway through, and thinking that i would probably like a different book on mostly the nerdy end of the subject, more. :red:

If you're halfway through the book and can't distinguish the thesis, that's probably a bad book  It should be at least somewhat clear in the first 10-20 pages.

Yeah, sure, but this is a reader's copy, who knows what it is missing?

Really, i think the problem is that i read the first part of it a pessimistic way. Like, i wasn't sure if the author was going to start shouting about MURRIKA and how our language dominates all, that sort of thing. I read the first few chapters with my bullshit face on, and then it sort of segued into looking at early language nerdshit.

So i will see where it winds up before i put my bullshit face back on is all i am saying i guess.

I'm still considering writing some sort of novella.

I really wish I had some inspiration for it.

I remember liking The Bachman Books. The originals, at least. The actual book The Running Man bore no resemblance to the Aaahnold movie whatsoever save for the vague general concept and was enjoyable, I thought.

I too really enjoyed the Bachman books, I like the early King stuff, but the Bachman stuff can be real dark.

It doesn't read quite the same; he doesn't ramble randomly in those as he can tend to do.

Right now, this:

I'm on the first book of the Dark Tower series, so far it's kinda slow going (which I've always read) so I'm kinda going slow myself with it..

There's some boxes sitting in the half of our living room where my gear is set up. These were going to Amvets; there were books in them. I raided the books. (Oddly, much of the selection down to the authors, condition and individual volumes themselves mirrored one of my ex's libraries. This reveals something re: one of Miz Jen's former housemates, or contributes to said from what I've heard at least)

That being said, there were quite a few things that are now mine. Including this:
Image

I'm three pages in and they're talking about strapping cameras onto sperm whales.

Also, Chris should go get Ex LIbris which I have posted previously out of the library. I can't send the one I read as it is not mine. I am the worst person at mailing things. But I digress.
