I just noticed the chick I'm talking about is the same chick that presents them right at the beginning of the video... but it most definitely is a chick, bro

The video itself is almost surreal to watch :hypno:

Yeah, their drummer has always been kind of quietly a badass. I really enjoy his playing (and the drum production) on the two middle records.

That rhythm section grooves so fucking hard. Pity I never enjoyed the timbre of Zach's voice; he's a "shot out of a cannon" one for me. The band kills it, though.

By the way, I've nearly watched all of it. I always dug Rage and definitely the rhythm section always stuck out to me as really talented but I am WTF'ing/really thinking about multiple things.

Seriously, why anyone would ever try to be heavy on record purely through scoopy guitar tone and turning down the bass guitar is beyond me. I can tell this sounded fucking massive live and there's tons of bass and there's one guitar going here; though to be fair they are locked in tight as hell. I don't know, that just sounds like what is right to me.. Big, pumping bass that doesn't step all over the guitar's feet.

Also; Tom Morello is a fucking badass motherfuck.

Pro tip: '90s rawk had a ton of good guitarists. Don't let the forums convince you otherwise. Most of them played solos too, some of which were also quite good. See the previous statement.

The "no mids/no bass" thing only works on two Metallica records, and that's solely on the strength of James Hetfield's pick hand. Even then, the bass is pretty slamming and played by badasses... you just can't hear the thing.

Note to bands: dial in your shizzle as a band. It seems like a total n00b mistake, but pro touring bands do it too without a producer there to fix their shit. Granted, some do know better. Best sounding metal show I've seen in terms of guitar tone? Iced Earth with In Flames and Jag Panzer opening, early 2000s. Granted isn't that boutiquey shit with the middle taken up by the best dialed-in 5150s you'll ever hear? I suppose as we're all transplants from gearhead forums and a lot of us have a healthy interest in recording as well we're probably more sensitive to this sort of thing.

Oh yeah, i hear that! I enjoyed his midrange yelping in his old hardcore band (Inside Out) but that wold have been par for the course back then, WRT abrasive singers in hardcore bands.

He has quite an obnoxious tone to him in the context of the RATM stuff though. And that is about 100% of the reason that i haven't heard these records since something like when they came out originally: back then i was living with people who could take his voice and would play his records.

If they would release instrumental tracks of the second and third records though, i would listen to them.

If any of 'em were in some iteration of Rock Band or Guitar Hero, brew your own. Far from the worst idea I've ever heard.

Slamming riffs and grooves, noise solos. I'll take two, please. Singer tends toward exceptionally bonoxious. Pls remove. Thx. -The Management
