I left the balls on...(to contiune in the it's not so bad...) I found it easier with the ball on up at the tuners. Hmm intonation was a pain in the ass, could be an hour easily, but I found it to be worth taking it once a year to a luthier to have him do it. I've done it maybe a half dozen times, set it, tune up, loosen string, move saddle, tighten string, repeat, repeat, repeat, ok, on to next string... Worth the $45 with new strings to take it to luthier. Again the Ibanez Edges I found to be the most stable floating trem out there. Matter of fact my current 550 I've not intonated in probably 5 years. The one guitar I keep 9's on.

Yeah, that's what I always did. Leave the balls on, I mean. Just trim the ends of the wound strings. I do seem to remember the Ibanezeses being the least worst of 'em.

On an unrelated note, I ran into Billy Gibbons at a Starbucks in Buffalo the other day. ZZ Top was in town. I still don't know what's on his hat, the one with the weird bits on it. I should have asked, in retrospect.

Well it wasn't that hard. I snipped the balls. Guitar sounds great. I will have to intonate though when it gets to doing things other than chug chug chugga chug.

90 goddamn rackspaces. 45 a side, 40 some odd inches deep x 7 feet high. I didn't realize it had plexiglass sides and all that. I don't even want to imagine what this would have cost. Free giant rack is free and giant.

Suffice to say this is sort of a more permanent emplacement for gear. And will have a total mad scientist vibe, which I like. Part of one side should really be a modular synth eventually.

It's funny how those racks come up for free, I had one given to me about 4 years ago and needed to clear out some space so I sold it for about a hundred, I offered it to my boss he said he didn't need it. Since then we've bought 3 of them for over 1k each.....
