Gear you like others wouldn't expect
I'll start: anything ENGL I've heard/played through in person. It strikes me as very Marshally with the upper mid thing but really, really mean sounding. 'S got a nice attack to it. Not gentle sounding amps by any stretch, but quite good. Can't comment on the cleans as I'm too busy hearing badass rawktones.
Also, re: guitars and basses: I like the aesthetics of the ESP F-series and the BC Rich Mockingbird. Curvypointy. I tend toward more traditional shapes but I think those look nice. The F-series is really wonky, but I like how the thing looks. I've spent some time with borrowed bass versions of each and rather liked them. I wouldn't mind one of the mahogany/black flame top/fixed bridge ESP F guitars either. I don't think they make them anymore though.

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
The level of Telecaster love on this forum borders on slightly disturbing. Fender should probably just give us a Tele endorsement, send us each one and be done with it. If Mike likes them I think my brain will collapse into a black hole. Doesn't strike me as the type, but it's possible. Hell, if we're going that route, Teles, some sort of P/J 5-string bass, AC30, 5150, Focusrite interfaces and Sennheiser headphones should mostly take care of everyone and leave us to sort out for ourselves whether our humbucker-things are more shredly or old Gibsons. But, y'know, free gear, endorsement deal for the forum and all...

I like the sounds of Mesa Boogies when they're dialled in right.
And yes Mockingbirds are awesome, despite how stupid I would look playing one.

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
i like to play steinbergers, believe it or not. they honestly feel amazing. same with parkers. i would never ever be caught dead playing one live though... they certainly are ugly as sin-- and i always thought it was kinda a shame that they both went the route of trying to look 'new'.. cause they both work incredibly well as tools. i played a 6505+ and had a blast. i have no earthly use for THAT much gain, and it was pretty unrecognizably not my own sound-- but i felt 40 feet tall and capable of levelling small cities with megaCHUNNNNNnnnnnnn... pretty fun stuff. can i get in on the endorsement deal for a focusrite octopre, please? an ac30 would be pretty cool as well..

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
Agreed, funny how we can still be bothered by the looks of some things, I have this aversion to red guitars, some of my favorites that I've owned were red, but they don't look good on me. Yes I'm shallow. I could go along with a Focusrite and Tele endorsement, fuck I would go along with an endorsement by anyone, even Behringer (I like their cab sim/guitar direct box) But Tele I can get behind. Right now my interface is Presonus, but I would like a Focusrite in the future....

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
They do play very nicely. I could probably get away with rocking one live and not looking like a total fool if only because of the context. It's been a while since I played one and I remember thinking they sounded very thin (likely because the body is about 1/16" thick cardboard, though it claims to be mahogany) but that may have been the result of my being in a Les Paul phase at the time. Whatever works. I say this because I think it's kinda funny despite our fairly divergent tastes in a lot of things there's a whole bunch of gear a lot of us here have (or a variant thereof) or like/appreciate/want. (Though I would go for a different flavour myself re: high gainers, for example.) Said list seems to be Maps-Approved Gear Choices. The Focusrite stuff I think was the best sounding in its price range when most of us who have 'em got 'em. Just better preamps- clean and open is a vibe, too. Certainly a better one than narrow and constricted.

Hair metal guitars and amps mostly.
Also: not for everyday use, but: EMGs. Which is most certainly tied to the directly above.

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
Also also: nylon string guitars. If you visited my house you would expect it because there is one right next to my pillow, but if you didn't, you might not, because i don't think i have ever posted anything recorded with it?

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
Telecasters, like everyone else. Looks I'm not too fond of, but they sound awesome.
I have a secret love for lower gain super compressed amps ala Cornford amps. You know, the amps that when they're as distorted as they get it's like a dirty clean tone with a compressor in front. Think Akerfeldt's lead tone in the first solo on Windowpane.

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
I want a lime green single-bucker Charvel-esque super strat sooo goddamn bad.
Also, before I got my Tron amp back, I was very interested in a Soldano/Jet City type amp, but the dirty channel fixed that gas pretty nicely.

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
One of the most comfortable necks I've ever played (for metal/quickly stuff) was an Epiphone Zakk Wylde sig.. That thing was fucking ridiculous, I would be down as fuck to own one. I like the tone of some SS amps that others would describe as shitty. I like skronky ass nasty mids.

I kinda have a thing for hipstereque guitars, semi-hollows, and pretty shredders. That Carvin that Devin was offered for his amp was fucking hot!
I'd be down for a tele endorsement too...

Re: Gear you like others wouldn't expect
BTW, just for the record I also love Teles. So I'm pretty sure it's unanimous love.
