BTW, just for the record I also love Teles. So I'm pretty sure it's unanimous love.
I'm only partly surprised by this. The metallest dudes on the forum like the Teles for how they sound and play. Now, Curtis' sentiment echoes that of Chris from my band- he doesn't care for the body shape, but acknowledges the thing for what it is- a weapon. It's just an undeniable rawk riff sound, and we all like rawk riffs. It's almost the anti-Les Paul in a way, despite their similarities. The Lester is refined, elegant. It speaks with authority from its status. The Tele in comparison is a lean scrappy bar fighter, tough as nails. If the Les Paul is the general in the Army Of Rock, the Tele is the career sergeant. Both command respect and will fuck your shit up.
To deny the bridge pickup of either is to deny riffs, and that shouldn't be.

I have a secret love for lower gain super compressed amps ala Cornford amps. You know, the amps that when they're as distorted as they get it's like a dirty clean tone with a compressor in front. Think Akerfeldt's lead tone in the first solo on Windowpane.
One of the nicer ($1k) Ibanez hollowbodies into a Fender Super nails this even in the store. Fender Super does that flavor well anyhow; it starts to break up at humanly listenable levels (before my AC30, certainly, and I've gigged with both running at once). It's a different flavor than a Twin, certainly dirtier, and bigger than a Deluxe.
Which leads to the question: what are Fender cleans anyhow? A Twin, Bassman, Super, Deluxe and Champ are all pretty damn different, we've heard 'em a ton of times... I'll generally ascribe "Fender cleans" to Twins. Loud, bright, warm in the low mids. Your other classic Fender sounds are dirtier, rougher. Vox clean is edge-of-breakup midrangey-er. JC120 clean is sterile SS clean. All have their virtues. If I ran a for-hire studio, I'd have all three on hand; they're not always the sexiest because of how commonplace they are, but they're sounds we hear in our heads writing songs.

The guy from the place with the thing. The one with the stuff.
Teles can also challenge you a bit more than other guitars. That sense of fighting with your instrument can really bring out some awesome riffs, for me at least.
They truly are the scrappy-bastard-with-a-heart-of-gold of the guitar world.

I get the same thing with my SG. I definitely play in a much different style on it to that when I play my LPs. It's generally more staccatto and shorter bursts of notes, rather than smooth and "liquid" (stupid guitar buzz words ) playing I tend to do on t'other guitars.
I remember hearing this back in the day! Or atleast another Tele metal clip, I can't remember if it was this one or not. But this is just as badass as I remember it being, the way the single note lines sound versus the way a humbucker guitar would sound is pretty interesting.

Yeah, he has some cool phrasing. He plays a lot of things that are similar in flavor to things i would lean towards playing, but pretty much always with a different accent/feel than how i would play them. It is a cool style he has going on.
Also I get a hard on for bluegrass instruments: violins, banjos, nice acoustics, etc. If you know me it makes sense, but to random people it really surprises them I am into such things.
Also I want a trumpet.

I had a trumpet here for a while. That was rad, even though i couldn't get it to do much more than loudskronk. Easier to play than my meetings with a saxamophone though.
Then the dood's mom learned that he left it at my house and called looking for it because evidently it was worth a couple dollars.
I would have one again if i could afford such a beast.

I do want on of those nasty $50 violins though. I am 130% into that concept.

Shit the way he plays banjo, you could learn in a few days.
He writes interesting riffs on them, but he is not exactly a shining example of banjo talent.
Earl Scruggs and Steve Martin on the other hand ...
