Why else would you put on some Mahler?

Have you ever watched the Instrument documentary? I found that it can kind of help to see what they are doing, in order to to hear what they are doing. They were very much a live band that just happened to get it pretty close to right on a few recordings(i prefer the later ones most myself).

But the real classic element of Fugazi, is IMO how they played off of each other. Which they did seamlessly enough much of the time, that hearing it, without seeing it, you might not catch what is actually happening live.

Also: Guy Picciotto might just be my favorite rock vocal performer dood ever. Even more so after seeing that documentary. He is like a hopped up hyperactive gumby doll with an apparent desire for self injury, that just never seems to pan out that way.

I wish i had gotten to see them when they were in their prime and of course, still playing. I chose not to go to two different shows back in the day, and it was retrospectively, kind of dumb of me.

Because I am a classical music dork? There are four Mahler symphonies sitting on what I guess is my "C" listening setup (old Sony component CD player, some EVs and an Infinity sub) in my room at the moment; 5, 6, 8 and 10. Bernstein/NY Philharmonic, 6 "Tragic"/Antoni Wit and the Polish National (they do the Decapitated and Behemoth records in that studio, metallers.), 8 Solti/Chicago (1971) and 10 Simon Rattle/Berlin.

Klemperer/Philharmonia 2 from the '50s is my absolute favorite record ever. 'S a vibe thing. I'm reasonably certain next on the list would be Floodland.

Can't say I was aware it existed. They're sorta off my personal radar mostly but I know a bunch of people who are into them. I'm tempted, if I want to give them some serious time, to start with the last record, which I've never listened to, and work back. I hear they got artsier toward the end?

I am all for nutso stage performers. Being in a band who's sort of the reverse- a shiny studio act that turns into glammed-up punkers onstage- I get the appeal. That is Proper Rawking.

Most of what I want to see, I miss, for some dumbass reason or another. Who's with me here?

To me, they got more interesting towards the end. At the beginning, it was (to my perceptions) pretty much Ian MacKaye's show, and the songs sort of took on a an Ian MacKaye sort of vibe, a little more simplistic, a little more straightforward punk sort of approach. The longer that Guy was in the band, the more it starts to sound like multiple people's multiple ideas to me.

I find it a little similar with a band like Sonic Youth. Multiple individuals with individual sounds and styles, that figured out a way to share a musical brain enough to make sounds as one. You can still hear the voices individually in there, but you couldn't remove one without fucking up the whole.

Bought We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank and Noone's First, And You're Next yesterday, not too big on the former album..
But I like the latter quite a bit.

This song is heavy, not bad from a band I think I wouldnt like too much.

Old school Finnish death metal is so great. So dark and vibey. I really get down on the atmosphere these bands created.
