What started as fuckery with a tiny sample of Axl Rose, of all things, is seeming to be turning into a cool little sort-of-SYL-ish, but mostly generally-fucking-out-there little songlet.

Finally polished off the drum tracks for a band's full length.

As we speak, two more bands wish to begin theirs.

It never ends. :D

Yes, though not nearly enough.

Root Beer is indeed delicious, but certain varieties of it can be pretty awful. Like cheap store-brand kind from the pharmacy :red:

What's a good brand? I don't remember what I had but it tasted like this stuff smells -

Germolene actually smells nice, but not in a way you'd want to taste :red:

How muchlike, if you don't mind saying?

I got like $60usd for the last one i recorded, which i was happy for/surprised by, because i told the doods i would do it for free. :red: That worked out to be about $10 an hour if i just count the tracking, and leave out the edit/mixing. If it was consistent work, i would actually be reasonably happy with that, becauuse i like doing it. But i would also have to start charging for/keeping track of, the editing and mixing time.

What kind did you try? Really, it is possible that you wouldn't like any kind. The shittier ones actually taste more like mostly sweetener. I suspect that you may simply be responding with distaste to the sassafras root flavour itself. :idk:

I like that flavour quite a bit myself, but i am also a big fan of slightly bitter tasting soft drinks. I like Birch Beer even more than the Root Beer, for instance, and i would suspect that you would like it a fair bit less. :lol:

Also: My favorite soft drink is one that most people absolutely hate for what they perceive as a medicinal sort of taste:

Cream Soda is also delicious.

And Ginger Ale.

I have a thing for sodas that most people hate.

I love cream soda and ginger ale. Root beer so far is not that great. The brand I tried was MUG, almost entirely for the awesome name :red:

IIRC I did not like MUG.

Barqs is what you can get on tap around here mostly, and it is pretty standard. Same with A&W, all of which tend to run on the sweeter side. So if they are sweet enough for you, then you might just not dig sassafras as chris mentioned.

Fifty for two tracks. Every time a multiple of four is involved, it's an extra fifty.

So two = 100
Four = 250
Five = 300

Twelve = 750

Yeah it's probably just that I don't like the root much but I'll try a different brand :red: I like other "root" drinks like dandelion & burdock :love:

Have a phone-in interview for a writing intern gig for a company I know absolute nothing about. For example, I don't know their name or what they do.

I need to get really charming, really fast.

My metal collaborator has started recording again, and he's asking 50 a track. I used to ask a buck-buck fiddy a night straight up + tape and never bothered to charge for the mix, assuming it a built-in cost. So stuff hasn't really changed in the past few years, I gather. And it's still cheaper than a pro studio.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Cost per track is an interesting way to do it. I get along much better with a cost/hour sort of rate i think. Cost/track makes more sense to me if i was doing mastering or just mixing something someone else recorded though.

I think that is also partly do to the fact that the last two bands i recorded for instance, one was five or six tracks and the other was ten...

The one with five tracks was done all isolated/overdubbed, but was also a punk rock band, so all five songs amounted to only ten minutes of music. The recording was ridiculously efficient, drums in one or two takes max, guitars in one or two takes max. Tracking didn't take more than two hours, setup inclusive. Just the drums were done in only about forty minutes, and that is counting unpacking, setting up mics, and the actual recording.

The other band was ten songs, but no overdubs. Just a live recording so they could give their incoming replacement drummer something complete with their old drummer playing the songs to learn them easier. Setup was more of a pain because i only have so many microphones and channels so i had to get tricky with it, but the tracking itself was only a little longer than the punk band.

In neither case would i have felt comfortable about charging very much money. The first band was so quick and efficient about tracking, and so basic and simple to mix. The second band being a live recording, i wouldn't have felt quite right about charging five hundred for the ten tracks.

I definitely have a different view on charging money though, no doubt. That has always been, may always be, one of my biggest problems. :red:

That said, back in the day, my badmetal band recorded a demo with the local metal recording dude himself, Kurt Ballou. He was running his studio out of a basement in a house he was sharing with the doods from the indie rock band Piebald at the time. Small space, but still lots of nice mics, triggers, big board, outboard effects, and a 2" 24-TRACK OTARI REEL-TO-REEL.

Back then, he was localfamous for Converge, but not for recording everybody else he is famous for now(though he had done lots of bands even by then, this was When Forever Comes Crashing era). He charged a flat rate, $10 an hour, plus tape. We recorded five songs over the course of a tracking day and a later mixing day, and ended up giving him $100 for the time, and IIRC about $90 for the reel of tape. At the time as a young band, i thought that was well more than reasonable. I don't know what his rates are now, but even after he first got recordingfamous, his rates only went up to $20 an hour. I think it was more money than that for bigger labels(i.e. the Albini model) but by that point he had also moved into his proper studio space also.

Shit is interesting.

Also: i am terrible about charging money for doing work. :lol:
