What kbps? Probably anything above 256 or a VBR around there is fine. 192 or lower, and there will be some missing awesomenesses.

Also, you will need to try it wif some headphones at some point.

If you dig it, cool, but if you don't think it is insanely awesome don't abandon it 100% until you can blast a 320kbps or CD copy via some decent headphonecans.

I admit though, i am definitely crazy about that record. :red:

Looks like it's 320kbps. I have some alright headphones in my bag, I'm just too lazy to go and get them out and try to untangle them right now :red: Could do with more high end but they're good at revealing some small details I never noticed before so should be alright.

Pissed Jeans - King Of Jeans. This one kinda "clicked" for me today. Pleasure Race is a pretty awesome tune.

Yo, Geoffstrung, i just saw this over at D. Roddy.com, so you may have already seen it there?

I am curious to hear the rest of it, anyhow...

I saw that but ignored it as I thought it was a rough demo I'd already heard.

That sounds ballin' though. Kind of weird not hearing Dim Mak with that guy on vocals. I have mixed feelings about how much disregard he gives the rhythm with his vocal patterns...

So when the fuck will they release this new Gorguts?

Listening to the one random Nine Inch Nails song I have (Just Like You Imagined) through some half decent headphones, I'm noticing loads of subtle sounds that I never heard before. I must acquire moar NIN

Just Like You Imagined is an amazing song. One of my favorite songs to have ever songed.

None of the records sound the same. The one that's off of, The Fragile, is a sprawling mass of sounds and textures. Double album. Very influential artists, Mr. Reznor & co., who succeeded in managing to make hit records full of oftentimes noisy, difficult stuff. Gets hated on by industrial purists at times, probably for mainstreaming their noises or actually daring to write pop songs with 'em, but they like German gay disco music anyhow that's much less cleverly arranged and orchestrated.

If you have a reasonable tolerance for late '80s/early '90s synth sounds, Pretty Hate Machine is the most straightforward song-wise throughout. It gets weird from there. Most of the time I recommend starting at the end and working back; this time I recommend starting at the beginning and working forward.

The Fragile, I'd argue, is essentially a prog-rock record. It's Trent's 2112, his Wall. Apparently he's a big Rush fan. And at that I think it succeeds in both the spirit of the thing and the true sense of it, progressive, something that pushes music forward.

And here's an interview with Alan Moulder talking about making that record, and some other stuff, but mostly that. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may00/articles/alan.htm

Broken is also very worth listening to, so don't be fooled by its EP status. It's by far their least electronic effort and was put out right after Pretty Hate Machine.

Broken is def worth mentioning, it was my favorite when I was younger. Lots of distorted guitars raping you in the face with Trent's most aggressive vocals recorded schprobably ever.

This. See my prior post. IMO his/their (I shouldn't discount Mr. Moulder's mixing and the rest of Trent's crew on that) best work. Seeing that that's my fave-o-rite bit of what I think is their best work, you're on you're own to top it. But there's a big catalog of stuff, which tends to be on the "quite good" side.

The piano on that, Just Like You Imagined, for what it's worth, is Mike Garson from David Bowie's band, not Trent, who is a fine piano player in his own right. But the shredly piano bits there are not he.

Go with that one and then explore the rest, I suppose. Broken and The Downward Spiral can get pretty violent, and I don't think they ever exceeded that level of hate on anything since. Even something like Somewhat Damaged or Starfuckers, Inc. on The Fragile never gets quite as mean. Somewhat Damaged makes a great mantra though.

I wish I still knew where my bootleg was of NIN and Bowie, with Trent fronting Scary Monsters and Bowie doing Reptile. An odd present from an ex-SO back in the late '90s. But awesome.

Right now, for me, this. Ani!

Diamanda  and John Paul Jones. Yes, from Led Zeppelin. She fronted his band on a rekkid.

Y'know what, ol' Bob Plant can't hit the notes, doesn't want to do a Zep reunion? Here's my take: Jimmy and JPJ tune down to C# and drop B as per the last time they gigged anyhoo, Jeff Burrows from The Tea Party plays drums, and Diamanda fronts the band.

Okay, this is like goth-doom Zeppelin with a screeching harpy frontwoman and Eric is the only person on the planet who might think this is actually like, really cool, but I think it would... work? It definitely plays up the mystical angle.

I'm a few songs into The Fragile now and I'm liking it so far. But nothing has come close to the genius of Just Like You Imagined as yet. The other NIN album I have that I love is that Ghosts I-IV or whatever it's called. Very awesome sounds on dat dere rekkid.

edit - hang on the transition between The Frail and The Wretched just kicked in. I like where this is going :D

That grinding guitar tone on Pilgrimage is bloody marvelous :isay:
