Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Garda made the Best Of Buffalo whatnots, got free studio time at GCR (which we use anyway; we're considering donating it having just recorded there and that our guy there hooks us up something fierce) and we're on a charity comp that's affiliated with Robbie Takac's [Goo Goo Dolls' bassist/GCR owner] Music Is Art charity. They help local school music programs and put on a big show every year which I've played a few times in a prior band to quite large audiences. We're number eight. Not bad for a band that's reasonably unhip.

Are you still in Alaska and if so when are you going back home? If it's within the next month and a detour to Whistler is at all possible you could extend your lead further still

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Apparently my laptop will run 49 tracks worth of SSL G-Channel plus some of the Waves Classic Compressor bundle and the API EQ that I like. This is a good thing, because I can get rough shit done and dial in tones (having printed the tape sims and Decapitator) on my home setup as my Hackinbox is currently in bed-shitting mode and then take them down to Snaxodrome II where my good monitors reside and a working Hackinbox as well, to finish 'em off. We're brute-forcing this; we brought down another 8GB of RAM, my 22" computer monitor and my ADAM monitors and hooked it up to the MOTU rig there. If I had time, I'd map the Yamaha board we have to Logic as a controller to have Real Faders And Knobs, but I don't.

Busting out lyrics to these rock-y songs in a fairly productive matter.. It is cool to be writing about things besides killing people for the first time in like, 3 years.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Spending a bunch of time listening to my Ancient Tapes was interesting. Most interesting to me, aside from totally forgetting ever playing some of the stuff that i poasted, was in the stuff that i didn't poast, which is about fifty cassettes of random riffs and things.
What was interesting was that some of the things/ideas i was battling with back then, i am still battling with today, but in some cases i feel like i was on a better track on those oldstuffs, now that i have hindsight to utilize.
On the other hand, even when i play sloppy today, it is about a bajillion times tighter than it was in 1996.
It is about focus i guess. Now i focus more on the execution of the thing and then i focused more on the sound of it, or something?
I would like a better balance i think.
But it has been helpful mayhap for refocusing somewhat, on where exactly my soundship is aimed, versus where it was aimed, versus where it should be aimed.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I don't know, maybe a couple weeks or a month after I get back? I want to still be on my guitar playing game when I'm there and I tend to get lazy when I'm home for awhile. So like, November I guess?

This is a Post Of Quality. I concur; I wish everything of mine had followed me in my travels to both reevaluate from a different perspective... and to learn from. Critical reevaluation of one's own work is useful, and with enough time you can learn from yourself. There are things that I think I did better then, or at least more interestingly. Especially when you make multiple noises. Like, I'm a way better singer and bassist than I was. I am not as technically good a guitarist or keyboardist. (Probably a much more expressive guitarist, but my overall chops are quite down.) I think I was probably more interesting a songwriter in some ways in that I didn't know I was doing it wrong, but I wouldn't play that kind of music now, mostly. I'm almost excited to be finished with my current project 'cause I have a couple more records to make that let me go off the deep end versus stuff that's pretty well set. Maybe it really was a good idea at the time.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I remember the first song I wrote/recorded and it was definitely terrible. Many timing mistakes (I recorded the guitar first then programmed drums and aligned them afterwards) and it did not fit together at all. Embarrasment

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
and we've spoken on the telephone my dear man. Ah, you were such a young lad at the time. They grow so quickly don't they....... I think this happens mostly with the state of what you need to be musicing for. If I am in an original project and I have to be songwriter guy my chops will slip for the sound overall, or is it just because I'm not obsessing on the skill of playing? If I am being gun-for-hire or even if I'm playing a band members tune, I tend to focus more on my playing skillz.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I will see what I can arrange with my hostess with the mostesst. I am ostensibly there for a quasi-professional geekreason (the Audio Engineering Society con) and I do have some olde fryndes to ketchup with, but there is built-in debauchery in the off hours. I think I'd be remiss if I didn't bring the new Tele and throw a couple fucked-up sounding pedals in one of my bags, y'know, just to make sure.

I have indeed heard Joey's sexy baritone. :eyebtows: On another note: I am beginning to gain some more confidence in my guitar playing, and let me tell you: Feels Good, Man.
