Good fucking work sir :isay: I would ask what the paper is about but I probably wouldn't understand it anyway :red:

Its an open access journal so you will be able to read it for yourself before the week is out :poop:

Or after, Babs might go back to Brazil for a bit after we are wed, and I am not sure we can afford for both of us to go. I might use that as an opportunity to do such things.

also, this working thing is getting in the way of me partying and trying do something called sleep. Again gigged friednight and saturnsnight with Sat ending somewhere around 4:30 and sleeping in a nice little suite away from home on the water, but got up early (7AM) to get home and see my kids which actually means a lot to me. Crossing rockstar life and trying to be a good dad is not as easy as it sounds.

This is something that i have run into with all of my ex-bandmates. I am still useless and single with lots of time for rock, but everyone else who i could rock with, has that juggling act to work. Hence: no bands for me.

I could probably get around it by aiming to rock with younger doods, but i am a (relative) oldfuck, and the concept strikes me as a little/lot: weird.

I manage, and I'm the youngest in my band. :idk: Only the bassist has kids though; he's divorced and his daughters are in college. The rest of us have opted out of the breeding pool for various reasons. (And our other guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist is married. To a six-foot-tall hot Asian woman researcherperson who is an a-door-able lovely person and could be a rockstar herself.)

My perpetual metalliband collaborator is total single geekydude. He falls into the me/Chris age bracket (I am slightly younger than Chris actually) but the Garda peeps are all a bit older.

I wish I could find musicians who like to play the same stuff I do, instead of hippy/trippy/jam/psychedelic and white-boy-reggae.

I mostly can't get on with anyone under 25. Actually, probably add a couple-few years to that now. There's a big generation disconnect. Like, huge, in terms of the way people communicate and relate with one another. There are exceptions but they are very few and far between. Exceptions, actually, for the people on here, who seem... normal (to me). Cannot relate to their world at all, and that is badtimes when it comes to arting effectively. All my friends have always been older. I can rock with a 40 year old rhythm section and do, but I don't think I could rock with a 20 year old one. It would have to be an exceptional one, as people and not just players.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yeah, it is odd, right now, out in the universe there are an awful lot of younger folks, especially drummers(once the most difficult piece), who are on or close to the right page (musically!) for what i could probably rock with, but i just can't picture spending bandmember amounts of time with folks (ones that i don't already know somehow, anyway) who are ten or more years younger than i am.

Creepy isn't the right word, but it is close maybe. I seem to have developed an innate sense that older doods hanging with younger doods is a notquiteright thing. It is that sense that that i seem to have developed as a youngdood, that in that situation, pessimistically-skewed for sure, that the old doods are just trying to "keep hip" by leeching off the energy of the youngdoods and should be avoided. And now, i feel that i would be perceived as the old dood in the equation.

But but. All of the doods my age have gone family/armybuilding style. So due to my initial thoughts regarding old doods rocking with youngdoods, and my own decision not to relationship/breed, it seems that i have once again fashioned a situation for myself, in which i am basically: boned.

As an aside, this is one thing that is becoming increasingly frustrating for me these days. I have this rotten tendency to draw guidelines and stipulations for myself, which combined with locational/situational choices i make, serve to make my own useful existence extremely difficult to maintain. That has got to be some sort of illness. It is kind of the mental equivalent to finding the largest rock available, and building a hard place next to it.

hmm. As a "youngdood" who sometimes hangs around with older people (almost everybody in the UK who I mountain bike with is above 30) it's not that weird. But I guess being in a band is a bit different to just riding bikes with people who share the same interests :idk:

Yeah, the issue is more my own, for sure. Especially because i am not like sixty years old, and i don't really look even thirty. It is really just a needlessly pessimistic angle that i seem to have developed when i was younger, a kind of "what is that oldfuck doing around all these youngfucks, anyhow?" sort of distrust. It is stupid.

Neither do I; my co-guitarist's wife recently guessed my age at 25, and I've known her for several years now! She's only like two years older than me. Apparently my totally unhip musical tastes (to say nothing of my professional background) were not a clue.

Re: my bandpeeps, we're all of pretty well the same musical generation having come out of the alt-rock thing, even if my rhythm section was the business end of it and I'm the last. My old friends, the people I grew up with that I'm still in somewhat occasional contact with are... they're superannuated perpetual college students, gamer geeks and the like, and I really can't relate to them at all. A few of them are Responsible Adults and have been re-suburbiated and I can't really relate to that either. I get on with my rocker crew. We've seen the elephant. Sometimes, we are the elephant. Disenfranchised grownups who've had lives and had and hated careers and want to make a lot of noise. We get on quite well. And that I think is crucial to maintaining an artistic relationship, that understanding of perspective. Note a constant, if accidental, lyrical theme throughout our stuff independent of who wrote it- wake the fuck up and see how people are fucking you/you are fucking yourself. This comes from somewhere. My brokenheart ballads do not fly with this band. And that's alright- there's a shared perspective and worldview and understanding and we like the right kinds of noise. The age differences aren't enough to matter.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
one of my bands has a wide range of age, from the girl who's 21 up to mid forties, another band I am the oldest, playing with young dudes, but even they did not know other than checking out my facebook and realizing I've been playing since the 80's, and the GnR thing I'm not sure we don't have to practice much I may be the youngest in that one... both my kids want to jam with me and my daughter at 8 has actually played a few tunes with one of my bands on keys (very simple parts. Very simple) but the kids have a few years b4 they can play in bars like pappy here. I don't talk much of my age as most of you have an idea, but 1. I don't act it and 2. I don't look it. Better off that way.

I like playing with younger band mates they bring me music that I may not have listened to if I didn't know them. Same with you guys, I listen to most suggestions here.

Actually speaking of bands with older people I just realised that the cover band I used to play in was 2 of us younger guys and the other 3 were over 40  It worked/works quite well actually as we're all fairly good friends. The other guitarist is a friend of mine from school, the drummer is his stepdad and the other guys are his mates.

In other news I'm wondering whether I've actually damaged something in my left hand middle finger from all the mountain biking I've been doing, considering how fucking rough it is over here and how shit my forks are at high speed and frequency bumps. It hurts to make a fist and I struggled to open a bottle of pop with the left hand earlier. Took the day off riding to go get my phone sorted (picked up a sweet pink sanyo for $10 on craigslist  ) and then go job hunting, and it's feeling a bit better. Just gonna load up on the advils and hope for the best I think :red:

And last night I had a dream where I was listening to a song with the most awesome bassline. It's nothing I've ever heard before so I think it must just be a case of dreaming good music then forgetting it when you wake up  The night before that I had a VERY strange dream. I can't remember the details but I know it involved zombies, Hitler, guns and mountain bikes.

We are all pulling for you. If i could give you some of my stachepowers i would. Lately i am actually finding it annoying how rapidly that shit grows. Easily four times faster than the rest of my face. Totally strange and excessive.
