The Buckethead Pikes tour of Bucketheadland. Excellent. Most definitely his best releases in years. After the past few, I had feared he may be getting bored and a tad stale. Fortunately, the giant robot proves his superiority once again.

Fuck! This is... metal, technically?

I want to know what the guitarist is using 'cause that is not a "metal" tone.

Aye, this is what good metal sounds like.

This guitar sound is one that seems to be catching on with a certain "off" type metal, and i love it.

Metal is after all really about the composition and structure. That's what differentiates it from hard rock even when the two can use identical sounds.

This is a good sound. This is a real sound.

The vibe of the band is definitely metal, but the vocals are clean and I could cop the tone with the sort of stuff I use.

Metal needs this. As a concept I like metal but good goddamn recursive influenced only by itself...

As an Opeth fan- I know you dislike them- the guitarthing makes sense to me, as they've been doing that for a long while re: chord structure and lower gain, Strat/PRS/Les Paul not-modern basswood EMG millionstring tones. Reminds me a bit of Borknagar in that way too? Which all really reminds me of 1998, in a way. But that was a time where this music said something. Yer modeler and samples say you demo-ed a song when the neighbors weren't home/SO was asleep/etc. And it's the nature of the beast that it would attract those who would do it Just So and dial in That Sound or wannabe producers who'll by-the-book... etc. It's very left-brain music but done best, I feel, by right-brain sorts. If I want to hear a fat lot of bullshit riffs and solos I will record myself practicing? I can and will expound on this, but no one wants to hear it.

I don't know why the fuck i didn't notice immediately that this was the dood from Ved Buens Ende. I am pretty out of it lately.

As for the guitar sound on The Black Flux, it sounds almost exactly to me like Duane Dennison's from the Jesus Lizard stuff, so i would guess something similar, a brightish guitar like a telecaster or a strat, into something big and loud and not very distorted, like a hiwatt or a marshall turned halfway up.

The rest of it is just in note choice. If he was playing AC/DC or Who riffs, it might very well sound just like AC/DC or The Who. I wouldn't be surprised. I love how much space it leaves for the bass though. An awesome sound.

I haven't actually listened to that record in fucking years. I used to love it so much though. Destroyed several copies through overplaying.

If you play heavy, it is heavy.

We've all heard shitass local d-bags who use gallons of distortion but sound pissweak.

I contend these are observable troofs.
