I love that someone in the comments called Robert Plant a "fucking lightweight". Admittedly I'm a bit of a fanboy but I think she's the odd singer who can actually do some justice to the material. Chris Cornell could have when he still had a voice. Singers steeped in the old-school blues and R&B tradition not just through rawk... It's really wonderful, the old styles, performed properly. Probably why I heart her so much- it's like opera blues.

I've been trying to incorporate some- well, a lot- of that into my own singing lately. I love the emotiveness of it, and I have a horrid rasp of a singing voice to begin with.

We'll see.

I'm half of one song in. It sounds like what it is. Hetfield & Co. backing up Lou Reed.

I want to hear them go off into squealing, squalling hell, and I will be disappointed if they don't. Assuming Kirk is on the right, I like that he's feeding back a lot, as he should. (Even Chris from my band who doesn't like him as a whole says he'd be a fine experimental guitarist... in a different band. I like him as a foil for Hetfield.)

Four tracks in, this is an art record and a hard listen. There's a lot of metal here, but this is not for metalheads as such; turn away now and go home, you will not find what you want here. This is a noise rock record.

EDIT: I'm going to come out and say I like this. These aren't songs in the traditional sense a lot of times. And frankly I don't give a fuck. Constraining one's self to the paradigm of song limits what you can do with sounds. This is not pretty, this is not nice, and yes, it's a violent wall of wank. I like it. Fuck you. I like Metal Machine Music too. I actually don't dislike St. Anger conceptually either, though it fails on the writing level. I think this succeeds much more for its sheer lack of attempt at songwriting as such. Again, artnoise record. Most people will not like this at all.
