Contemplating putting 6550/KT88s in my AOR, cause y'know, it needs to be louder

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Everything Louder Than Everything Else. Also, thank you Mr. Chris! There's some weird chords there, and I, er, forgot them. Having an audio reference I should be able to sort them out in short order. I think I'm good on what I want to resurrect for that- really, the Secondhand Savior record I never finished recording good versions of and stuff that was not appropriate Garda material- mostly my weepy anti-lovesongs. And some of my other noisy-stuff. I haven't really written in a while and this stuff deserves justice I think. Listening back over my archives some of these were good songs. Garda is fairly accessible in an alt-rock sort of way, where I on my own am not as much and tend to veer off into structures and timbres that are not, so much.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Indeed. Our bassist is running two amps so I need to catch up! The temptation to build an amp that runs a quad of 6550/kt88s properly for 150+W is getting strong now. Loud to a fault I know

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Hey, I run a NMV AC30 (sometimes with a Super Reverb or other stuff) and the Dirty 30 is a Force For Hate on its own. Running alongside a Diezel it's like WTF Man?!?! At last rehearsal on Wednesday Mr. Chris was still up at stage volume and was drowning out the drummer in the room. And we are a pretty rocking band to begin with. Live I'm usually the one where it's "Christalfuckingmighty!" and told to turn down 'cause of the NMV thing; I really have a very limited volume range with the sweep of the pots between "inaudible live" and "FUCK YOU!"
So I am totally for this. Frankly I think a lot of (good) bands in clubs would sound better with more stage volume because it would truly True Bypass hack FOH non-engineers.
Since there's no way I can compete with a Les Paul or PRS into what, 180-200w of pain, I go for the Strats and Teles into Rip Your Face Off.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Now, this was a pretty alright rig for the rockingbass: Mesa Stiletto, Marshall with Greenies, Markbass, GK Neo 4x10. Deluxe Jazz. Sold the GK cab to the bassist in my current band, and that rocks pretty hard, still, gotta say. Beats the shit out of me what happened to the rest.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Indeed, most engineers can suck it, people have come to listen to the bands, not your mix. If we're playing somewhere with a pissy pants FOH guy I'll take something more restrained but on the whole we go in hot and raw with only the vocals through the PA. I should really get this karate covers band on the move too although 180W of clean headroom might be a little overkill by an order of magnitude

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
We bring our own dude, and he A) plays in my occasional metal band, or rather I play bass in his and B) can mix his ass off. You roll in with in-ears and OMGWFT keys and samples and dudes are like, well, OMGWTF?! You know what that aux knob for the monitors does? Well, that, but through our 'phones. Oh, and that's a line in. Like a bass but not sorta. Y'know the shitty classic rock cover bands with the fake piano and B3? It's like that but not the same sounds. Settle down there, Spanky. Just turn it up. It's not that hard. I'm actually super-polite In Real Life. That's the worst part. Rig o' Hate: And my attitude toward everything (from an old ToneSettings poast):

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Interview went swimmingly was one of those ones where you can just geek out and they lap it up, rather than trying to catch you out with stupid questions. The guy basically said he'd like to offer me the job now but he just has to wait and see how the person they interview on Wednesday does..

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
'Round here lots of towns postponed trick-or-treating to tonight because of all of the trees down and all of the power outages that were still fucking shit up on monday.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
You wouldn't possibly have All Will Be Revealed kicking about, would you? As an aside, I think I'd like to do a proper Joint Chiefs record too. Total Sabbath-worship. (Chris from Garda argues it's Soundgarden-worship; one step removed. Valid point is valid.) I have three million of these stupid riffs; I can just yell insane nonsense over them and it works. That I don't smoke pot makes the stoner-rock thing even funnier.
