yessir- but they're also good books in their own right just to put the screws to how you live yer life. i like the way he writes as well-- total grandfatherly goodness-- no judgement implied, no hassles-- just-the-facts-ma'am and mostly a bunch of stories about other people putting these things to good use. sometimes you'll chuckle, 'cause some if it is FULLY the stuff of disney and the up by your bootstraps fairy story-- but at the same time... sometimes that shit is real too- and even if it isn't-- he posits some really good ideals that're worth thinking about, and really puts it right back to you to say 'fuggit. i'm okay, and dammit, i AM okay.'

gotta admit.. i forget that kinda stuff now and again. kinda nice having a nice ole granpap sorta voice to remind you though :D

I'll seek them out. I've been going through a lot lately and attempting to get some assistance to get back on my feet. The past couple of months have been rough. Hence why my record's not done, etc. I think something like that would do me good. My IRL friends have been very supportive.

I'm about to finish The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It's pretty good.

I've read all 3 in the series. Actually very excellent. I also watched 2 of the movies (Swedish version) and have the 3rd, just not had the time to watch it yet.

I'm almost finished with the 2nd book now, it's also awesome. Haven't seen the films yet. I want to read the books first so I can be a book snob about it :red: I'm looking forward to seeing the American remake though, I think Trent Reznor did the soundtrack so it should be good :)

ahhh... so you will need to read the third quite soon.

The Swedish versions were pretty close to the book, but not perfect. Very few films are anywhere near as good as the book. I think of the books I've read and seen the movie, the closest was Misery.

I too am look forward to the US version of the film.

I liked the movie version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest pretty well. The narrative, and how it was told, were altered but it still captured the spirit of the book which I feel is a major flaw in most movie adaptations of novels.

Both examples cited, as different as they are from each other, are not bad ones.

Placing the book on stage or screen is not easy. There's a lot that gets lost, and a large part of it I've long felt is in the wording and the imagery it creates.

Oddly, I'll defend the film version of Titus Andronicus, the Anthony Hopkins one.

I still have not seen the film version of Vonnegut's Breakfast Of Champions though I really should. It has Bruce Willis as leading man, and I don't even get how the fuck you could make a film out of Vonnegut's most fucked-up work. And I adore him; one of my favorite writers.

I was not a fan, have to say. I read the first one. Now, Wheel Of Time I consumed obsessively right around when Opeth's Blackwater Park came out. I sat down with the first one, the Opeth record and a double mocha- proabably more than one- at my haunt of choice then and was hooked. As a general rule I avoid the sci-fi, fantasy and horror genres these days. Though I've been meaning to see what the alternate history sorts- Turtledove and Flint, specifically, have been up to. But keep forgetting; I think Thank You For Smoking was the last time I read fiction. 'S all history and the natural sciences for me these days, punctuated by occasional issues of TapeOp, linguistic things and the odd reference work.

ahhh, that Batman excerpt is Jack Fish by J Milligan

Quote:
"What an astounding, loony tour de force! Hard-boiled yet comedic, realistic yet absurd-Jack Fish is a noir story told in technicolor. It also puts in time as a real love letter to New York City. J Milligan is a great new writer, and this is a great new book."-Jonathan Ames, author of Wake Up, Sir! "Dig it: Jack Fish is a wild ride through a groovy new novelist's imagination. It's juicy metaphor, hot satire and a boss meditation on media. J Milligan is here to stay."-James Ellroy, author of L.A. Confidential "Wonderful. . . . Told with the same mad

Started this a couple days ago, nice ADD-friendly sort of collection of random texts about or mentioning birds, from widespread sources:

Reminds me of a video I saw...

It takes place in Russia.

Some sort of rebellious group make social statements by shoplifting. So a lady shoplifts a raw chicken from a grocery store by smuggling it in her coochie. :idk:
