It was just stated by Tomas Haake in a live interview feed. Anyone else as excited as I am?

That's an awesome fucking tour. But why is Baroness there? They fit in like I fit in at a Black Panther rally.

Bro. I have no idea why Baroness is on there. All I know is that it makes me incredibly happy.

Indeed. It really was a powerchord. Clear, steady tones. Perhaps my cheeks played the root, and my rectum the fifth.

You should practice this. When you can get an Em7#9 going on, you should record some Hendrix covers.

Bollocks. So I have a gig tomorrow night, and the power tubes in my AC30 have shat themselves. All my top end is gone. And I'm in Buffalo, so finding decent EL84s without ordering them- if I can find them at all in a day- is probably not gonna happen. Our boutique-y store might have them (they stock awesome things), our GC is so crap they didn't have them last time I was there, like none at all :hypno: ...

What is this that stands before me?

Image

That would be early enough there's a Blackface circuit all up in that. THD speakers and Tung-Sols.

Either that or I try and borrow a Dual Rec on a day's notice.

I tried to buy some EL84's about a year ago at GC here, in a fairly busy area and they no haz here either......

I am fortunate to work really close to Doug's Tubes so if ever I am in dire need I am sure I could pick up, but yes finding decent tubes on short notice is not easy.

I'd thought of that, but then I'm like "fuckit, I'll play through the Super." Because A) it sounds awesome and is one of my three fave-o-rite maps* and B) it's there. It's a loud, fat, gritty-clean thing and eats pedals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And the occasional snack. I've gigged with it before, I'll do it again. 'Cause an OCD into a Super (still a 40-watter there- it's a Blackface with Silverface cosmetics; the AC30 is louder and does not break up as quickly) with a nice Strat and Tele is such a weak, crap tone.

*- AC30, Super, Shiva. But we knew this.

That you live near Doug's Tubes, is awesome.

And why the hell can't I find EL84s locally, anyhow? What is up with that? They're not that uncommon in things. Especially given the low-wattage stuff that's come out the past few years.

The Super and AC30 are maps that I've not owned that I hope to one day. I should really check out the Super they have at the studio we practice at tonight....

Agree on the frustration finding EL-84's locally that is kinda fucksored. Especially with GC selling so many. They ARE a Vox dealer, and my Bug has el-84's as well....

The Supers are a different flavor than a Deluxe or a Twin. They get loud, but they start to break up at tolerable levels. They are a full, thick, warm sound. The mid-to-late silverfaces where they upped the wattage and added a master volume, those are a different animal. But a blackface, early silverface, or reissue all pretty much do the same thing. And that thing is awesome. Normal channel, volume 4 unless you hate the other people in the room, start with the treble and bass at 5 and just roll with it. Bring a nice distortion (unless you hate the other people in the room) and a delay. Victorinox.

And the 84s thing really is baffling. I suppose the internet really is the source of all good things?

I thought that was Twins, actually. I also remember reading something some time ago where the writer described seeing... IIRC it was Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer back in the day, and they each had six Twins stacked in a pyramid. Apparently they were very, very loud.

Was indeed Twins IIRC. I seem to remember reading an interview wif Nuge once where he was talking about how he would spend a fair bit of time before the show pacing the venue with the thing wired and blasting, to learn what parts of the stage were conducive to not making his hollowgeetar squeal uncontrollably, and where he could go for just enough for massive sustainy things.

...and I thought I hated it when I don't get a decent soundcheck. Yikes! I can see why he would have done that.

One thing that makes me wonder, is how they'd wire all that stuff together back in the day, the guys who actually ran a whole bunch of stuff at once. A simple splitter box or what?

A wall of Twins? Considering the fact that Nuge's tone wasn't exactly clean I'll bet that was absolutely deafening. Hell, one Twin cranked to his gain level will do some serious hearing fuckery.

I read the thread our fearless leader posted, and apparently he'd used Super Twins at one point. 6x 6L6 power section. :hypno: EVMs and JBL 15s in the extension cabs. Christalfuckingmighty.
