I am sitting here though and thinking about it. No one here will ever come to full understanding on this issue. Consider the backgrounds of a few people here: Chris grew up with nothing but sisters and had a lot of them. Clearly he will have more insight into this issue than, I, for example. I have one sister, though she has Aspberger's Syndrome and does not display many behaviors typical of any normal girl, or of any human normal for that matter. I also despise my sister which might have removed some of my empathy skills. ALSO; I live in a rich suburb with a very low crime rate. Girls in my area do not have to deal with violent sexual crimes on a level girls in a more urban area like NY, for example. I am kinda with Geoff though, I've come to realize quickly it is not a fantastic conversation topic. It is one of the few things that I cannot enjoy feeling like an asshole about.

You are an insightful and intelligent dude, Cameron. And i totally agree with you on this point. From the moment i was born i already had two women in my life(mom and older sis) who immediately began demonstrating to me what the realities of non-genderwarfare male-female interactions could entail. I got two more sisters after that, and no brothers(until more recently when older sis married my first brother(-inlaw sure, but he is awesome like a blood brother).

Altogether my surrounded-by-women youth(my mom's side of the family, which was the one we saw most often, was four aunts and only one uncle(who lived on the other side of the country and i rarely saw)), absolutely prepared me for the concept of female interaction, free of sexual politics and manipulations. I consider it very much to have been an unfair advantage. In many cases(not all, though. :red: ), as a result, i didn't have to learn via awkward stumblings what women mean when they say certain things commonly misunderstood by dudes, and what they intend when they do certain other things equally confusing.

I think that all of my sisters find it very difficult to argue with me, because they can't really use many of the shortcuts available to them when they argue with the other men in their lives. Because i know (oftentimes) what they mean, really, and if they don't want to talk about that, well, then, i guess they aren't really prepared for the conversation. :red:

But. My view is this: Though i have had a somewhat uncommon exposure to women from an early age that helped me learn how to deal with women in a non-sexual, non-manipulative way, it is a thing that anyone can learn. Beyond that, it is a thing that many people already know, inside, how to do, but for many people, which represents the path of greater resistance, when it is easier to simply dig the trenches in, and play a role that has been established by someone else for them("i am so totally..." "a feminist", "against feminism", etc etc). Because it makes the arguments shorter. They brawl, they split, they make up, rinse repeat, (the frontline advances, retreats, temporary truces are signed, broken, wars continue).

Cyclical patterns are comfortable, even when... they aren't really. Especially when you have two sides so willing to dig trenches.

One that I have noticed: Women always win sexual harassment suits, even if the woman was the one harassing. Well, not always, but the majority of the cases. Men really have to work their ass off to win a sexual harassment suit.

Also: Women climb the corporate ladder twice as fast as men, regardless of ability or intellect, because it's PC to have women high up in your company. This is from general observation and of course isn't always true.

But, the same problems exist on the other side of the fence too, just in different areas. I believe in equality and support it wholeheartedly, but I do not like the fact that some groups/people/sexes tend to be more equal than others, if you know what I mean.

True equality will never happen. It's impossible, we're humans, we have self-preservation instincts, we have bias, we all have shit wrong with us that makes us not equal to the next person in some way or another.

Pretty much what I wanted to say.

The problem with both of those situations, is that they both represent an overcorrection to a pre-existing self-standing injustice in the opposite direction, rather than an outright self-standing injustice of its own.

Were it not for greedy selfish doods misusing their power to ensure that for many years sexual harassment was common, expected, and protected, modern humans would be far less inclined to suspect that the modern dood's intentions might be less than decent. Similarly, were it not for ages upon ages of completely male dominated workforces and management, modern humans would be far less inclined to make inroads specifically for women in both areas.

While overcorrection like this does look an awful lot like injustice(and is indeed, not "right") it is really a problem that men built ourselves, not one that was foisted upon us by women. "Doing what you can, because you can, and because you want to" is rarely in and of itself a recipe for longterm, consequence-free living. No one who goes that way wants to pay the consequences, that is just an element of human nature. But the consequences are coming anyhow.

Yes. An overcorrection to past injustices. It is not a wise course of action, nor is it the best. Much like affirmative action. It's just sexism in reverse.

I blame feminism for catalyzing it. I mean I'm all for women getting a fair share... but I'm not for the guilt of past doings leading to what we have here. I'm not saying that women rule society and are making it hard for men. I'm saying that women and men rule society, and a lot of those men deal with the guilt of a past of sexism towards women by creating an environment that is instead sexist towards men.

Here's the thing though, until you get equality, you will get overcorrection. If you simply eliminate the overcorrection, right now(which is functionally not possible, because it isn't really overtly a conscious choice to be unfair, so much as it is the physical manifestation of an unfortunate pre-existing bias built of real initial problems and abuses) then all you have is still: complete male domination of all aspects of life. That is no solution, in and of itself. And, furthermore, the issue cannot at all be separated from the whole as if it was unrelated anyhow.

This is indeed similar to affirmative action. And abolishing affirmative action would do equally little to resolve anything, except for taking some of the subconscious pressure off of the ruling majority, not to continue to abuse their power, lest they be forced to pay for it when the tables turn, i.e. when a minority is given(by essentially unfair dice roll) control over some aspect of the majority classes' lives, in spite of all of the work that the ruling class has done to ensure that that can never happen.

"Reverse racism" is a fucking looney concept in the form that it is meant by many who use it. It is insane for people who already control 99% of EVERYTHING, to make as much fucking noise about the 1% that they DON'T control. (And that, due to the fact that they are kind of dicks about their handling of most of that 99%, this 1% turns out to be something that works against them. Overcorrection, misguided/imprecise payback, whatever you want to call it.)

Because i bought ten PT2399s($4 each from US supplier, $0.50 from Thai supplier, fuckyes) the last time i made an order, i currently have a silly delay on the breadboard which utilizes three of them. Shit is all pingpongy and goofballs. :panic:

Unfortunately, i only have room on the breadboard for one more PT2399 and its related bits.

Otherwise i would use all ten of the fucking things, because this is a fun toy.

Happy birfdae to me- I just installed Toontrack Electronic EZX. I've wanted that thing forever. It is as awesome as it smells, or something, in my limited playing around with it so far. :D

I am currently trying to fuck up SD2 drums to make them not sound like SD2.

I have all the straight drum outs EQ'd a little harshly, each direct to a bus with a punchy comp. Then I sent all them to a parrallel bus with a super pumping compressor on it. Then I set all the room mics up with EQ's pressing the highs, and a bullet mic set for a little extra dirty.

All of this with a very stripped down NY Allaire kit with mostly old ass Ludwig pieces.

Right now it sounds absolutely ugly, so I have to be doing something right.

If your RAM allows, enable all bleed on everything. It makes a difference. It is not all on by default.

...and I do believe upon the morrow I'mma lay down the scratch guitars for me solo record. I transcribed the guitars earlier and was shocked at how quickly I remembered everything once I figured out what keys and tunings this stuff was in, oddball chords and all.

I haven't yet decided if I'm going to stick with the 14 old ones I chose or add some newer stuff in there. For cohesiveness' sake I may stick with the older stuff for volume 1, as it were. This also means the return of flamethrower-solos in my recorded work.

I have no idea who's gonna play drums on it. I would like them to not be SD2.

Here is what I have so far on the fucking SD2 up project. Still got lots of tweaking to do. Everything kinda sounds shitty, now I have to clean it up while retaining the shitty.

But it's a pretty sort of shitty. I think the crashes could probably come down in overall volume (not velocity; they don't sound like hard hits at all, but given what's going on with the snare, I wouldn't expect them to be.) It is not the typical SD2 sound we've all come to know and love from every forum clip evar.

I would snaxodrummer on your snaxorecord. But unfortunately i am by no means accurate and consistent to the degree that you have become accustomed(and that you should of course require anyhow).

If you ever need a sloppy noiserock album tracked though....

I added the fourth delay to my breadboard, and it is proper silly now. I think i might actually aim to build this behemoth into a box. It will have to be a big box though: it is essentially four complete delay pedals crammed into one. I have some interesting/terrible ideas about switches that could be implemented and whizzbangery that could be accomplished with it though.

It might be because I learned beginner BASIC back before high school, but I am taking to coding in it pretty well. Something about language built around logic just clicks with me.

Aww. I've always appreciated your busy gonzodrumming. And actually there's some tracks on there it would work, like, really well for that veer off into that skronky dissonant direction. The two people who I'd normally have drum on things are too restrained-sounding.
