It's been years since I've heard it, but I remember their live record being a good document of a bunch of guys who could play some rawk. They were no hacks.
I remember an interview with [producer] Al Kooper where he mentioned they were big fans of and influenced by Free (whom I'm really only familiar with by name) so that may be worth looking into for that kind of rocking?

Oh, i suspect that you may be slightly more familiar with Free than just by name.
They produced, for instance, one of those songs that one could not avoid at all in this region, no matter how hard they might wish to or try:
A staple of General Construction Contractor Radio across the country.
Also, a pair of especially badass chordriffs throughout the toon. While i am not really all that into the band, the guitars bits on this one song are just a bit shy of Back In Black sorts of slick.

Yeah Free is pretty much unavoidable if you listen to classic rock radio.

Okay, that I know, and that I even knew who it was by. As you said... And I like the term "General Construction Contractor Radio". Which around here includes a lot of Rush; I wonder whether that's due to Canada being [gestures vaguely left] over there somewhere a few blocks down.

Yeah, you know what it is. The radio itself is either yellow with duct tape holding part of it together, or it is black with gray paint/spackle shit all over it. And it only plays that one station. The call letters might change (a little) but it is the same radio station across the country.
And yes, i think that perhaps, in your area, you might be getting a little signal bleed from the Canuckistani version.

I don't really dig Free that much, but I love Skynyrd. I was kinda raised on Skynyrd since my dad was a huge fan of them. They never play the really good Skynyrd songs on the radio here though.
