 Re: The Chris Thread
I know! It doesn't even look real. It looks like it's made of fabric (slightly distressed) with a nozzle for a nose!

 Re: The Chris Thread
I think it is just a little weird to see them all colorized and shit. I mean, they do generally have a bit of that inflatey space suit sort of vibe going on normally: Though it is possible that the colorized one is also a bit extra wrinkly. Maybe it is a little dehydrated:

 Re: The Chris Thread
HMS Victory, Admiral Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar and the only surviving example- sailable, at least- of a ship-of-the-line (View Image )

 Re: The Chris Thread
Not actually sailable(it sits actually, in permanent dry dock), but for sure, the only such ship currently commissioned for duty(in this case, as a tour/training ship). And of course, totally fucking awesome. I told my mom we should visit it someday. They actually filmed many of the ship interior scenes from her beloved Hornblower series, on the Victory. Interestingly, the oldest sailable and commissioned warship currently in existence is sitting fifteen minutes away from me in the Boston Harbor: the USS Constitution.

 Re: The Chris Thread
Me folks, whom I haven't seen in a couple years, were always trying to get me to watch that. I never got around to it. Newted. I knew the bit about the Constitution. Which makes me wonder what the second-oldest commissioned vessel in the US Navy is, especially as the Iowa-class battleships were decommissioned in the '90s. (Weren't there some accidents aboard them toward the end of their service? I seem to remember this from the news when I was younger.) A quick poking around wiki-land reveals the Iowa and Wisconsin were maintained until 2006 in condition that would have allowed them to be readily returned to service, and they're of WWII-vintage. The Constitution is, er, a little older than that by a bit. Speaking of old things, though not ships:
