...from a management/A&R type, by way of our bassist's ladyfriend. She works with these sorts of people. Names removed. Re: the Garda EP:

Hi [deleted]:

I have not had an opportunity to listen to the CD yet however, I understood that you wanted me to critique the CD Cover Creative so here are my first impressions without any knowledge of what the content of the CD is:

FRONT COVER:

1. My initial impression from the front cover creative is that this music would be Heavy Metal in style and content.
2. It looks like the image is of a camera lens with a bullet hole in the middle. If I am incorrect and it is not a camera lens then I would say that it could initially be mistaken for a industrial gear. The colors and creative look is very industrial. I can't read all of the message on the camera lens casing "Destroy Everything" and "Republic Of Garda" however, that might have been the concept?
3. I am not certain of the meaning of the name "Garda" but it really does not matter.

BACK COVER:

1. Consistant with the front cover in style therefore good

INSIDE CREATIVE:

1. Consistant with the outside covers therefore good.
2. The copy and lyrics are difficult to read with a Drop Shadow on the font and the smaller size of the font on such a Industrial and busy background however, the background is consistent with the outside creative and colors. It is not that the font is too small but rather that the background is competing with it and the background is winning.

BAND PHOTO:

1. Consistant with the overall feel of the package and use of colors

DISC CREATIVE:

1. Consistant and a good lift from the outside front cover
2. It compliments the overall creative and gives that same lens feel with the bullet hole in the centre because of the clear plastic centre piece which holds the CD in place.

INSIDE DISC HOLDER PANEL:

1. I am not certain what the metal tubes are unless it is some type of Locking System? It is in keeping with the industrial look.

CONCLUSION AND OBSERVATIONS:

1. Since I have not listened to the content of the CD I can truly provide an impression of the packaging/creative and the impression it would leave on a potential consumer and after all that is what packaging is all about. If properly done the creative/packaging is to draw the attention of the consumer and provide them with some type of indicator of what is inside as well as make the consumer want to buy the CD to have the experience of discovery. For myself as a potential consumer of music here is the mess
age that the creative packaging delivers to me and what I would expect if I purchased the CD:

a. I would expect the music to be Heavy and probably Metal in nature.
b. I would expect the content to have a Heavy Edge and possibly be DARK.
c. The music might contain some Anger

2. If my impression is close to the musical content then the creative has done it's job. However, if I am off the mark then the creative has done a god job of delivering an impression but the impression does not match the musical content. So, it is either a great job well done or NOT and I will only know after I have listened to the musical content.

[deleted], let me know if my impression based on the creative is correct or not....[deleted]

I actually agree with this, for what it's worth. The visuals do point to "heavy band" though the end result is really "weird rock". One of those "you'd have to see these guys to know". It's really not that far off. We get booked with heavy bands a lot- tonight, actually, was a good example. They dig us even though we largely lack the chugga chugga.

Put a blastbeat in a song. BLAM-ZO! Problem solved.

That is quite the thorough breakdown, eh? You guys have an element of heaviness, I think. It's got a lot of bassness and I'd say the artstyle used for the case (that I have seen) is very fitting and proper.

I would agree as well, visually it works well for what you guys do. It would be hard to incorporate weird into your artwork unless you had some Salvador Dali.

I think everything looks top notch. I don't agree with who ever that was that said that this is probably metal. I think it fits your style perfectly. You don't necessarily know what you are going to get but once you start listening, it all makes sense.
