I put my black covered BK Mules into my SG last week, the result is a badass look and they sound pretty good as well (though this guitar still seems to need a boost to get the best out of it)

I'm still using my trusty Laney GH50L into a G12H30 2x12 (in a pretty small cabinet, a Tube Town British). It does need re-valving I think, I may take it in for a full service at some point as some pots are scratchy and need replacing. Here are the specs for the Mules. I was going to get Riff Raffs but these sound good enough to me. Low output pickups definitely sound better in this guitar. I used this getar in my latest track.

1. Did you use a boost on the toon you just recorded?

2. Have you tried spraying a bit of radioshack style cleaner (e.g. DeoxIT) into those pots yet? In general, and this is not always but rather in general, a pot won't need replacing for a little crackling. Usually a bit of cleaner will fix it up properly.

There are obviously exceptions and some amps really do have the shittest pots available in them, whose replacement is rarely a bad thing(i am looking at you Crate), but if it has normal decent pots in it, some cleaner should ought to do the trick.

Yeah I used my BYOC tubescreamer. And yeah I tried some Servisol in the pots but I cant' seem to get it to go in (that's what she said ) or something as it doesn't do much. The problem with the pots isn't just scratching, sometimes for example when adjusting the presence knob, the tone will go a bit dull/quieter then kind of kick back in to the proper sound intermittently until the knob is wiggled around a bit. The same thing happens with the FX loop level and master volumes.

Those symptoms may well also be internal oxidation.

The Servisol you have is the "contact cleaner" type right?

Also, you opened the amp to clean them yes? Most pots will have an opening on the back into which the contact cleaner's straw thing can be aimed. The main thing is to spray a little, rotate the pot 100% both directions, then spray a little more and do it again. Usually a two or three cycles of this should do the trick.

Similarly, in the case of FX loops and jacks, it is important to spray some onto the internal contacts, then to insert and remove a plug a few times to make sure that the cleaner can contact all of the parts that need contacting. You can also spray the plug you use so that it will be sure to apply its deoxidizing love to whatever surface it contacts.

That said, it could also be broken solder connections or even broken internal pot bits. But before you pay someone to fix that, you should be positive that you have done all that you can to clean the parts correctly, as that will always be the simplest and cheapest route.

yeah I think so, I'm gonna try it again though And I am pretty sure the valves could do with replacing, I've noticed it sounds a lot drier (I know Laneys are pretty dry sounding amps anyway) without the boost recently so maybe the preamp ones could do with changing. The power valves are a good few years old (may actually be over 4 years old, I can't remember), so maybe time for a swap there as well.

And yes, it has legitimately happened. My sister has Aspberger's syndrome and is capable of mentally swinging something like that. So now she's just claiming she didn't do what she did or atleast not on purpose. She has done shit like this before and just denies it once the actual consequences for her actions have come to the attention of others. She denies it until I scream at her enough to get her to breakdown and admit it. She hates me and likely did this without even thinking anymore of it until now or before. She just does petty shit like that on impulse. She is perpetually 12 or 13, yet it inspires no sympathy in me.

Aspergers is tough.

Shit sucks, but even at 26 she probably struggles with that whole concept of right and wrong and her actions have consequences etc....

I know some pretty highly functional adults with Aspbergers who do shit that just seem so mean, but out of no malicious intent.


Of course, she could just be bitchin'. That is the other side of the coin.

In this case it is both lack of comprehending basic (to us) social concepts and plain ol' bitchin'. She loves watching other people fail and suffer and clearly finds enjoyment in it, in a way that is neither understandable nor can be sympathized. Yes, I laugh at cruel things I shouldn't but the contexts in which she finds things funny is just baffling and sometimes kindofsortoffuckedup.
