Nah, I shouldn't say that, even to bust your ass; we grew up with the things. They do have "a sound". It is a more pleasant sound than 128k mp3s by a lot, too. And some stuff just sounds better on cassette- it's just the appropriate sonic medium for some things of a certain era and sound.

Love hearing the fucking contrabass trombone on this. It's really an odd sounding instrument.

These old jazz records really do sound fantastic, too. I can only assume this stuff was in mono originally, and I'd love to hear it like that just to compare. (Even as it stands, they're a testament to the qualities of L/C/R panning. No funny stuff, just mono sources hard left, hard right and center, and everything clear as day even with four thousand busy things going on at once.)

I am kind of into it. There are a few bands that almost sound the same to me, for instance these guys:



It is like a pile of bands who really really liked Botch or something. Now, i really really liked Botch too, but my mind goes back and forth on these other bands; sometimes i am totally into it, sometimes, i feel like they didn't deviate from the source material quite enough.

The second track you poasted though, the inclusion of the Morricone/Niccolai section is right swell.
