The fairly new Tame Impala single. Kinda cool, maybe not the direction I was hoping they would go in though, but the album could be quite different from what is represented here.

Blooze rawk. :red:

Production is, predictably, excellent. Haven't listened to these guys- or this flavour of rawk- in a good long while.

It's pretty manly sounding. I love how upfront the drums are on there, too. The record I posted before it (Gov't Mule) is sort of the opposite drum-wise. Sort of, in that the drums are natural sounding, but they're small and in the back, with enormous bass (bass sound on both is awesome) and guitars way upfront, dry, and in your face. Don Cab is a lot roomier overall. I like hearing the room on the bass guitar there, too.

It occurs to me I don't have any of the Neurosis records Albini did, and I should probably remedy this. If only to hear him do his thing in a heavier context. Plus they did some stuff with Jarboe from Swans, and I heart Swans. I remember when the last Swans record came out, I had to check to see if it was an Albini recording/mix, 'cause it's sure done in that style. And one that I think works well for live instrumentation weirdrock.

Don Caballero is all about the Lead Drummist thing, mix-wise. The guitars just by virtue of their often repetitive bleepy bloopyness tend to lend themselves towards being pushed back a lot and leaving tons of bass room. This is also though IMO one of the main reasons that the kick CAN sound that way. It really doesn't have much clickattack to it at all. It doesn't seem to have much high end boost at all to it, but the absence of really oppressive midrangey guitars means that you still can 'read' the kick's attack in the sound pretty clearly. The whole thing also lends a really nice unique quality to the double kick parts. They never ever start to feel even a little like death metal, and to me this has almost everything to do with the fact that they are soooo smooth/soft in their EQing.

Interestingly, i don't really like much from the more metal records that Albini has done. His idea of accurately depicting what he hears for heavy guitars seems a bit different than mine, and interestingly compared to his own abrasive sounds, i feel like he dulls the edges of a lot of proper metal guitar sorts of sounds when they get really gainy. He seems to focus on the low end of that sort of sound, perhaps at the expense of the topside teeth. The drums, pretty much always without fail, sound fantastic though.

Absolutely blown away. Best doom record in fucking years. Frighteningly close to perfection.

Band from Toronto I got high like, 6 months ago or some shit. They played a house show in Seattle; played a pretty sweet set, were big into Fugazi and seemed like cool dudes so I was like, "YO, TRYNA GET HIGH?" Also, I had to ask them if they happened to know a certain Torontonian (would that be the correct term? :red:) or of his musical exploits. The name "Creep Colony" was familiar, but none of the other ones. Been meaning to mention this, just kept forgetting.

Kind of a silly video, but they're a decent enough band.

Ah, never heard of them or recognize any of them... they might have been humouring you about recognizing my old band's name too... It's a big city full of people who don't give a fuck about each other's music.
