Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
If it's the Flextone II, the thing can sound decent enough for heavy sounds. We got some pretty gnarugly slam tones with the thing back in high school. Maybe not good, but atleast appropriate.
Yargh, I am kinda stoked on the 4x12. Even if the speakers are meh, atleast I have an option for getting louder if I must. Also, a closed back option.

Re: that IPA- is it local? I'm not a beer drinker at all really, but give me a mean-ass porter or IPA (either end of the beer spectrum) and I will gladly consume it. And the "organic" sets off my effete urban bourgeois totebag foodsnob the-occasional-cheese-is-the-only-non-vegan-thing-I-eat, of course.
I ask because I like to drink alcohol, and there's a lot of it in this town. And a beersnob store near my house.

It's from a Portlandian brewery, so yes, local. It's pretty tasty and certainly a proper hop-sy bastard, comes in at 6.6%.

Good ≠ appropriate. Though... Dude, you've got a good room... You could do "good" and make some really interesting sounds that nobody makes. Good as in sound quality, not as in pleasant tones. And when ugly is what you want, all sorts of garbage gear comes into play. These will actually do a presentable heavy rhythm chunk dialed in right. Even if the speakers blow, it's a nice stage prop and will project better than blasting at your knees. And you can always replace the speakers, or wire it up as an overgrown 2x12.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Oh, I am quite sure it will get some overdub usage. This last complete song I posted will get some baritone (well, baritone tuned to drop B strung up with .12-.56s) action going on the heavy guitar parts doubling the riff in 5ths an octave below, borrowing my DM band guitarist's ESP LTD Viper. And I got the 5150 for that, as well. But that thing pretty much lives at my drummer's house, which is also where Kaleb, the guitarist, is living. I think I am going to bring it home to stay with me, though it's not the most appealing map when it comes to what *I* do when it comes to guitaring. Though, should be fun getting heavy guitar sounds, haven't really much experience with that.
Also, I definitely have plenty of songs with proper uglysounds intention. Anything involving wailing on flat fifth chords has some room for filthy guitar tones.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
The guitaring/bassing/drumming and what we do in bands vs. what we do on our own is funny, innit? I metalbass and I really don't listen to metal much at all. (Though I used to when I was younger, like, a lot.) And as dicked-up as the Garda stuff sounds, it really is a collaborative thing and at least as much Chris's band as mine, as much as I may be the velvet fist in the iron glove when it comes to production. Even then, it's what the guys want, ultimately. And my solo stuff is alternately more mellow, more poppy or more violent. The next record has more of my hand all over it in terms of its aesthetics and arrangements, but almost none of them are my songs. Even the stuff I sing, someone else wrote, down to the words. I have one "me" song on the new record as of right now. And it doesn't bother me one bit. Granted the actual sonic texture of the band is my bailiwick and that is very important to me and I will defend that like a viper against all comers. Also, Cam, you are starting to talk like me and Chris when it comes to this stuff. (To be fair, I know I've absorbed a bit from Chris over the years re: forumlanguage, and this is a community of like-minded oddballs who've been talking this shit for years now. It is to be assumed, I'd think, at this point, you'd see visible effects. There's probably a good research paper or two hidden in here.) I totally forgot you had a 5150. Make it do what you need. And if you start recording other d00ds, you'll have a couple metalmaps and a couple Voxes. Not. A bad. Start.

Words no fun if you can't design your own. The germans have always been on point there. You get some odd constructions now and then, but people know what the fuck you are talking about more of the time than not. Too easy to use other well-established words that don't really mean what you mean. DIY: your languages for sport and profit today!

Just got back from my buddy's wedding on the East Coast. I've lost my shoes and I'm tired as fuck.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I'm never drinking again.
I'm positive I had alcohol poisoning. Threw up twice during the night, twice in the morning. Couldn't keep down any water I was dry heaving for half an hour. Then threw up again once I got home.
"Even if the victim lives, an alcohol overdose can lead to irreversible brain damage. Rapid binge drinking (which often happens on a bet or a dare) is especially dangerous because the victim can ingest a fatal dose before becoming unconscious."
Sounds about right.

Sucks man. Now you'll have to learn how to proposition homeless people for sex, sober. Which it strikes me is likely to be a little more tricky than the other way. I hear they are way more suspicious of sober people. Alcohol poisoning is a def a impediment to partying. Hospital parties are weird and the wrong kind of smelly, and too bright. I am sorry for your lots. In all seriousness keep yourself safe and undrainbamaged. I know a couple people who are alcohol/accident busted up in their brains and it is not very nice for them. You may think you can do some stupid stuff the way your brain works now, you do not want to see what an IQ of 50 after years of clobbering, drunking, and bouncing your skull off of things will get you.

Yeah, it's actually more than passable for rock stuff and does way better low gain than people give it credit for, but I haven't had a cab of my own to pair it with till' now with the 4x12. It's always been (and was purchased for the purpose of being) the DM band amp, always ready to go for impromptu jams (which I foolishly hold out hope for, but seems more unlikely as time passes) at Ian's house which was at one time, stocked as fuck with cool shit. Big Ampeg setup, SVT-3 at one time, which was replaced by an SVT-4. Gargantuan 8x10 that I might be buying from him, though I think the head is gone. Lots of weird, midrangeorcheap metal guits and extended range basses, a couple guitars cabs and lots of cool drum related odds and ends; mostly weird small accent cymbals and old trashhats. And at one time he had a workable old (and what looked pretty niceish) Peavey mixer setup with monitors and everything ready for recording, that's how we recorded that CTS demo. Also a CAD drum mic package kit dealie and a bunch of 57s and 58s. But all this shit was on loan to a friend for the last two years or more for his doom/prog deal that has yet to show any prospects or output due to lack of continuity; ridiculous direction/lineup changes and bandnamethereforeentireconcept changes. It got yanked from him and it's all in storage now, I guess. I have access to some mic stands and decent-ish recording gear maybe for borrowing..? But more likely to buy. I know some of it got sold so I don't have full knowledge of what is still kicking around, but I have been told that the bass speaker monolith remains.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
The idea of a hundred watt JCM800 paired with a ratty 4x12 has long seemed like the only proper map for rocking and rolling to me, and something I have/will consider in the future. There is something in that sound you can't really get anywhere else, and most of the time, it's the right answer to most any situation. If I buy anything else, 'tis what it would be or maybe a clone, a righteous old commie Sovtek or something newer, maybe. But I think that the Vox thing kinda works for what I am doing? I mean, ideally I could mix the two.. I am sure I will end up with one before too long now that I have a cab that could take it.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Just took the cover of the neck pickup on the silverburst Tele. Took about two minutes, and that's including getting the hairdryer. Snipped the pickup cover ground wire, heated up the pickup for a minute, cover came right off without having to get any sort of object in under there. Now to re-assemble and see how she sounds after being restrung (and thoroughly cleaned; it sees a lot of stage action).
