hay wuts goin on in here
Sup guise? Thought i'd drop by. I'm very fond of all of you, but life has thrown me quite a pile of lemons over the last while and I havent had time to live! So I thought i'd fixin that and get back to some of my favorite people ever. Im gaming my bawls off, mechwarrior is awesome, hawken is not, tribes is a pretty cool guy, and im absolutely loving Space Pirates and zombies. My amp project was shelved... until tonight. I bought new tubes for it, and i have new transformers in a box. IT WILL BE FINISHED. I WILL HAVE A 2x6550 SUNN MODEL T WITH 5U4 TUBE RECTUMFRIERS OR I WILL FIST MYSELF How is everybody?

Re: hay wuts goin on in here
Always a fine thing to hear from one of our wandering members out in the wild.
Sorry to hear about lemon deliveries. Life seems always to forget the water and sugar that my father likes (often) to remind me will be required if we are expected to make lemonade from this shit.
Around here, things are the way they are. They move slowly as ever, but most of our peoples are surviving more or less. The Maplitonians battle on.
Is that mechwarrior game out now? Whathehell was it called? I could find it in the gamer thread but i am feeling lazy at the moment.
You say new transformers and tubes, did the old ones suicide? Do i already know this? Have i blocked it out?

Re: hay wuts goin on in here
Mechwarrior is still in closed beta. Its on the crysis engine - the one that crysis 2 was on. Its very pretty, very basic, but follows the tabletop rules very well. NDA was lifted last week though, so media is getting plastered everywhere. The reticule looks weird because you have 2. Small o for aiming your arms, large + for aiming your torso. Takes time to line them up, makes it feel real sweet and clunky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eCMxoLcvoQFor transformers, i got some dynaclone transformers to replace the weber's. Theyre hifi trannies build to dynaco specs - and old sunns were built from dynaco's so they seemed appropro. They also have the insanely high voltages that i need hahahah. theyre like 750-0-750. Needed to replace them becayuse the webers would not tolerate volume above 4, they would make the tubes arc because the transformer's impedance was so low, like half of what it should be.

Yeah, i remember you poasted the other video from that game, but for some reason i thought it had a different name. Still looks fucking awesome. Will the Weber trannies still be good for a more normal build, or are they toasty toast now? 1500v centertapped is crrzzy. Even with a 5U4, that will give you what, well over 850vdc? Fucking madness. Fantastic.

Re: hay wuts goin on in here
correction, 780v XD http://www.triodeel.com/pdf/p782new.pdfThe weber i have are designed for a 100 watt 4xel34 maplifier. Im using a pair of kt88's right now, and the tiny dinky weber does not like it. The 60w dynaclone i have is more than twice the size of the weber. Im downgrading the kt88's to 6550's for two reasons. 1: toan. 2. i dont trust a pair of 5u4's to run kt88's safely. Its too close to their max spec. I will also need a fourth (4th) tranny in this maplifier just to run the rectifier tubes, the dynaco only has enough amperage for one, and i defs need 2.

Re: hay wuts goin on in here
Awsum. I just love how OTT this all sounds. I was looking at those 100w webers for an amp once. In the end i never even started the build, but i also was kind of leaning towards: they wanted too little money for them for me to feel that i wouldn't need a second set at some point due to meltdown. Mainly though, this is because i have already done this process with some Ceriatone trannies, and now generally fear really low prices for asian transformers. They make them fast and cheap, and i don't think many of them have proper interwind insulation. They don't seem poised to handle stress very well at all. I still like the idea of the webers because they are so cheap, but i would possibly be inclined to underbuild the circuit if i went with them, like 6V6s instead of 6L6s, 6L6s instead of EL34s, etc. If i recall correctly though, i think that Weber uses the same 100w Marshall-style set in their "sunn clone" also? I never really looked too hard at that one though. I would expect it to be a bit of a saggy mess though, and for the trannies to get as hot as an actual sun to boot.

Re: hay wuts goin on in here
Wow, that Mechwarrior looks so far beyond the Mechwarrior II I played in the mid nineties. Which was awesome. LRM20... fucking br00tal!
Someday I too may take to the innards of a maplifier. I'd like to go through my Laney and give it a make over, replacing all the caps and getting it a new shel, getting it back on EL34s. Maybe modding for a wee more gain.

Re: hay wuts goin on in here
I KNOW RITE? Its funny, while i was waiting to get into the beta, i ran mechwarrior 2 in dosbox and played it again. I forgot how fucking hard games used to be. Super fun though. Super super fun. Also, if, if you want to look at the innards of a maplifier, and want a bro to hang out while you do it, i would love to look at your laney's insides. Awww yeah.

Re: hay wuts goin on in here
Last Wednesday i got back from a 7 week job in ottawa. Maybe thats what you were thinking? I'm going to ride out this job for a while, and if they try to ship me out again, I'll probably quit. They don't even give out-of-town benefits. Same pay, in a company apartment, but with a 30$/day food allowance. Not worth it. Its not enough time to start a new life, and just the right amount of time to ruin my relationship with my girlfriend. If I have to quit, i'll probably end up working retail or some shit like that. Im fucking tired of traveling. I would be happy if i didnt have to travel for work for the rest of my life. Maybe 1-2 day things, but 7 weeks is motherfucking bullshit. My buddy is being shipped out to edmonton or something by a car company, and they are buying him a car, an apartment, giving him a massive raise, and all that jazz. He gets to start a new life, and doesn't have a gf so it will be easier for him i think.
