Ah! That is much easier than the ones that are soldered on? It was just stuck on with the potting wax then? Victory!

Huzzah, I think you might like the coverless neck pup if you are looking for more stratty tones. It gets a lot closer and is not as much of a bitch as swapping in a strat pup, though that isn't the toughest thing in the world to do if popping the cover off doesn't quite get you there.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yeah, just the wax. No metal tabs, no solder save for the ground wire. And even then, not a lot of wax at all, and mostly concentrated on one side. I have a Strat pickup kicking around, but it looks like I'd need a new guard for it vs. modifying the existing one given where the screwholes are for the pickup mounting screws. Guitarfetish does sell decently cheap Tele guards already cut for Strat pickups.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yeah I have heard they are decent-nice guards, especially for the price. And as Chris mentioned I believe the screw holes usually match up with the Fender guits.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
It tempts me to build another Tele to use the Strat pickup. Probably the bound figured top cherryburst body, if I got something from GFS: Yeah, I know a few of you don't dig the figured wood so much, but I rather like it. A body like that on a Tele, though, I'd almost rather not have any guard on there at all and mount the pickup to the body. The route isn't really the right shape for that, though.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I had a GFS tele with almost that exact body, and I liked it :red: Though now I am more of a off-white guy. Also, you might be able to use one of these to cover up the neck pup route: http://www.guitarfetish.com/Strat-Picku ... _1528.html

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Ooh, that would look nice, actually. No pickguard, chrome hardware, rosewood board- probably just find a MIM Tele neck on the 'bay or something. I've looked into those bodies a bit. The light weight worried me at first, but apparently that stuff is actually a nice tonewood. I was never a fan of basswood bodies, but this stuff is supposed to be pretty resonant.
I'd have to score a bridge pickup from somewhere though. And I haven't given much thought as to what.

Geez, that sounds fucked Rob. I don't think I'm physically able to put that much booze in my body before it comes out again.

Could be worse, you could be this girl - http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/19866191 And on the topic of binge drinking, here's a better quality photo of me in suitable attire (apart from it being about 2 sizes too big)

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Have any of you guys ever used a 5150 as a bass amp by any chance? Or know of any bands who have recorded with such a thing? I am thinking I could probably skip on a bass head, I bet the 5150 would be a proper rock bass amp.

I not, but have used my Egnater Rebel as a bass map live when another map died. I say yar, try it, do you have a bass cab? that would make more of a difference, having speaks that would know what to do with the freakwentshes.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I may own an Ampeg 8x10 before too long, I think that paired with the 5150 could make a pretty volatile combination for dirt.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I have used a Dual Rec and a JVM as a bass amp, and I ran my Mesa Stiletto in parallel with a "real" bass amp. These things work. The Rec especially. (Which has shown up for distortion on a few records I know of- Opeth and Metallica, at least.) The guy from High On Fire has a couple guitar heads in his rig, and all their tones were badass when I saw them. And I do remember reading about someone using a 5150 for bass dirt once, I just don't remember in what band or on what. Big ugly 100w guitar heads on bass? Totally cool. You can always add something else at some other point for cleaner for pretty cheap. I used the silverburst Tele all throughout rehearsal today, and without the neck pickup cover, it's very Strat-y. Very Strat-y. I A/Bed it against my Strat beforehand, and it is definitely in the same family now, where it was not before. I'm a little shocked at just how much of a change it is. I like it very much.

No, but I have used my old MP-1 in combination with a 50w combo amp for playring teh bass. Actually got some cool tones with it I couldn't get otherwise or without pedals. .gif)

Heh. Boy. I just might use the 5150 for bass tracking when Gravitational does some recordings.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Do it. I was jamming with my friend I metalbass for earlier, along with the bassist from my old goth-metal band (playing guitar- all classic rock, old-school metal and '90s grunge stuff) and a drummer friend of the aforementioned, and there was lots of fun gear involved. I was bassing through an old Carvin head that dirtied up pretty decently with a pair of Jazz Basses, one with EMGs, one with Dimarzios (not mine- looked old) (there was an American Deluxe 5-string in the back room along with an upright; those didn't get touched... along with all the other shit back there.) We had a Fender Twin, a 4x10 Bassman combo, Mesa Triaxis/2:90, AxeFX, a shitload of nice Gibsons and Fenders (Strats, LPs- including P90s and mini-humbuckers, SG, Explorer, '70s Strats, two nice Ludwig kits, one of which was vintage '70s with old dark sounding Zildjians to match and an old Supraphonic, the other a modern kit with modern cymbals and an acrylic Pork Pie snare. And a Wurlizer electric piano and a Korg Karma synth we used for B3 and Clavinet sounds. Bunch of pedals. There was more shit, but that's what mostly got played. Honestly, it was a mess 'cause there was nothing all of us knew- or, more accurately remembered properly the whole way through. Though we did have some people in the hall cheering while we ran through old Metallica songs. I don't do this sort of thing very often; it was goodtimes rockparty.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
This talk of guitar amps as bass amps has me thinking.. could I get away with using my GH50L as a bass amp if I purchased a bass cab? Would anything in the geetar amp likely to be damaged or would everything be ok as long as the speakers can handle it?
