Cam, is it possible the USB cord got yanked at some point? If so, the USB jack on the Tascam could have gotten fuckered. Much like a laptop DC power jack, the USB jack is one of the most crucial and nonsensically fragile parts on an interface.

Superhella possible, that is kinda what I have been thinking what is going on, yet the connection feels pretty solid.

Devin's right about it being nonsensically fragile. A friend of mine has a Pod XT Pro with a fucker'd USB port. Doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it. It just... Doesn't work. One short or loose connection or bad solder joint or whatever inside yer unit and it's buggered.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
D'ya guys think something like that could be repaired by cracking open the box and just getting at it?
One of my friends is particularly adept with electronics, makes bank repairing and re-selling shit from craigslist to ebay and people in the area. He's good at soldering, he could help me if it was particuarly complicated. Kid's 17 and he's owned an Acura RSX, Lexus GS300 and a really nice Integra (not the awful Fast and the Furious shit everyone does) all bought with his own money/trading cars. Mind you, he also used to be one of the biggest weed dealers in Mukilteo, but still. He's graduating with like a 3.5 or some shit, kid's one of those obviously weirdly motivated people who just gets shit done. Bizarre to see in someone that young.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Entirely dependent on what's causing the problem. If it's just a bad connection, yeah. I had an issue with one of the pres in my Focusrite, and it turned out just to be a loose molex connector. Plugged it back in. Works fine. If it's something like that, or a broken solder joint or something, yeah.
This will kill any chance you have of getting any sort of warranty service, though. If it's still under warranty, Tascam should in theory fix this or replace the thing for ye. (MOTU has very good service in that regard; my bassist's interface had some sort of issue- I forget what; I think it wasn't powering on?- and they just replaced the whole thing, hundred bucks, and I think it was well out of warranty, too. I think that's their standard "shit that's broke" fee.)
Since the issue appears to be with the USB, it might be something a bit more arcane that you really can't fix, though. It could be a problem with a chip or something on one of the boards in there.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Punch them in the junk. It will make them respond faster. Spent all day programming drums and synths fer me rekkid. In doing so, I was relieved to note I took a DI for some of the solos that were meant to be placeholders- I'd like to use them! Some, I didn't... And I might use them anyway. They're running through enough virtual analog faux studio garbage you can't tell it's a Pod. Or I might re-track them, because I'm snooty like that. It's not like I don't play them the damn same every time anyhow. Also, I really, really like the Sansamp Bass Driver. Even for clean tones. It definitely makes for a more pleasant experience having good bass tones right from the get-go.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Learning C# was all fun and games until we got to delegates, lambdas and LINQ. This is a little trash program where I created my own version of LINQ functions and used them to print a list of people and another list of people with a name that starts with "B":  |  |  |  | Code: using System; using System.Collections.Generic;
namespace Session2 { static class EnumerableExtensions { public static IEnumerable<TResult> MySelect<TSource, TResult>( this IEnumerable<TSource> source, Func<TSource, TResult> projection) { foreach (var item in source) yield return projection(item); }
public static IEnumerable<T> MyWhere<T>( this IEnumerable<T> source, Func<T, bool> predicate) { foreach (var item in source) if (predicate(item)) yield return item; }
public static TSource MyFirst<TSource>( IEnumerable<TSource> source) { return source.GetEnumerator().Current; }
public static TSource MyFirst<TSource>( IEnumerable<TSource> source, Func<TSource, bool> predicate) { var item = source.GetEnumerator().Current; return predicate(item) ? item : item; }
public static bool MyAll<TSource>( IEnumerable<TSource> source, Func<TSource, bool> predicate) { var allTrue = true; while (source.GetEnumerator().MoveNext()) { foreach (var item in source) if (predicate(item)) allTrue = true; else allTrue = false; return allTrue; }
return allTrue; }
public static bool MyAny<TSource>( IEnumerable<TSource> source) { return source.GetEnumerator().Current != null; }
public static bool MyAny<TSource>( IEnumerable<TSource> source, Func<TSource, bool> predicate) { while (source.GetEnumerator().MoveNext()) foreach (var item in source) if (predicate(item)) return true; return false; } }
class Person { public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; }
public Person(string firstName, string lastName) { FirstName = firstName; LastName = lastName; } }
class Program { static void Main() { var people = new List<Person> { new Person("Bob", "Builder"), new Person("Thomas", "Train"), new Person("Donald", "Duck") };
var peopleStartingWithB = people .MyWhere(p => p.FirstName.StartsWith( "b", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)) .MySelect(p => p.FirstName);
Console.WriteLine("PEOPLE:"); Console.WriteLine("-------"); foreach (var person in people) Console.WriteLine("{0} {1}", person.FirstName, person.LastName); Console.WriteLine();
Console.WriteLine("PEOPLE STARTING WITH B:"); Console.WriteLine("-----------------------"); foreach (var person in peopleStartingWithB) { Console.WriteLine(person); }
Console.ReadKey(); } } }

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Man, what the fuck. It appears now that my Line 6 Toneport is not working either. It is showing it is not reading the USB connection, yet the interface is clearly getting power, just not getting anything from the mics..

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
In theory this shouldn't matter, but it might; try this:
Power off the computers and the interfaces. Power on the interfaces; let them do their startup thing, whatever that is. Then power on the computer. See if they work then.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I will try it, though I just restarted my computer with the installation of the Line 6 software, everything's restarted. But, I am getting desperate.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I am getting the same shit, at start up it tells me it is not reading that I have any compatible hardware hooked up (which I do, the Toneport) and asks if I should let it continue as if I did have something hooked up. The box is all lit up, the level meter lights are on and shit. It is really similar to what was going on before with the Tascam (they still haven't hit me back), except this seems to not even register that there are mics and shit going on. This is some bullshit. I just want to make noises.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I've two right here, one that worked for a long time and have no reason to believe doesn't still working considering the other one (which I bought 2 days ago) hasn't got me any results either.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Cam: go to System Preferences --> Sound and see if they show up there under Output or Input when they're connected. This might be computer-related?

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
They don't show up under either input or output, it just shows the internal computer microphone and speakers. I dunno if they normally would, though? I've never had to fuckz with anything like that on the multiple computers I've used with Gearbox or the Toneport, the Gearbox software just recognized that the shit was plugged in and worked. Though, I have never used it with a Mac, so I dunno maybe something's different.

 Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
If the computer's seeing them, they should show up as I/O options- you should be able to route your system audio through them. So the 'puter's not recognizing either. This is really quite strange. I was gonna say if your 'puter was at least seeing them, check the preferences in Reaper, but...

Snaxie, I think you may have just saved my ass. I saw the other one was for Snow Leopard, but it showed no other more current version in the "Downloads" section so I figured "that must be the one", but this looks like the ticket.
