You know the forum looks crazy as hell when Noir makes it easier to navigate.

Yeah there has to be a better theme to use for Krampus. The real killer with the current theme is that the width is locked, and the actual forum page is super narrow so everything is really cramped. Especially avatars and such.

Returning to making games in Unity after knowing how to actually code (a little bit) is fucking awesome.

If I needed to, say, poast an ad fer a bassist and 2nd guitar/synth operator for my non-Garda rockmaterial, is "post-punk indie rock" an appropriate descriptor? Fits as well as anything else, I suppose- it's definitely not traditional rock (despite the occasional shredly solo). Would that make sense to Kids These Days?

I like the :krampus: theme, if for no other reason than it has a big ol' devil all over everything, but the display is a bit wonky. It's hard to read the text of the main pages, even when I'm on Der Beastmaschine vs. the laptop; even with the super-wide format display with the multiple monitaurs, everything's all crammed together and the light blue on red is real hard to make out.

Snaxie, I think as long as you specify Post Punk as GoF then they'd get the message, might not be so obvious to someone my age or a little bit older, IMO. That term is so subjective due to time since it's creation, post punk could also be Against Me! or sumpin to an unknowing crowd. Though, it'd probably do fer anyone qualified to be in your band.

The Krampus theme is cool for about 5 minutes. It too like Sasquatch is supposed to be assholian. It does that well.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I have been gone for a long ass time, but was happy to see that my sister had not burnt down the house over the three weeks or so.

What little internetting i could accomplish from IL made reading maps fairly un-easy. So i will attempt catch up here, with so many words being spoke to keep track of.

1. Regarding Tony's Laptop Screen. Have you had the thing apart? They are fiddly, but not impossible to do, normally. Search ideally, for instructions for your own specific laptop model. It is possible that the little ribbon connectore inside has snapped partially from all of the back and forthing, but if you get lucky you might find that it has somehow just pulled from its insertion point enough to go intermittent when you open it wider than 90º. It is generally a right bitchwhore to insert the ribbon thing into its home in these things(they are prone to bending and creasing and basically misbehaving instead of working correctly) but it is not unpossible if undertaken with care.

2. Regarding drug choice. Krokodil, while impressive in its efficacy in mind and body destruction potential, is way too mainstream now. I suggest that a new drug be manufactured from a combination of kerosene, cocaine, and roto rooter drain clearing weedkiller solution. I figure the weedkiller would need to be cooked down some to achieve a proper potency. This drug will require a name.

3. Regarding moving-back-in-with-the-'rents-to-flee-a-rodent-full-blown-offensive. Face it Geoff, the rats own that house, not your landlord. I suspect that they might respond well to being paid the rent directly(they may indeed resent the landlord's imposition and claims of dominion), but knowing rats(they are wily and tend to hold a grudge) perhaps, not even then. Let them have their house back. There is no shame in a tactical retreat, and there is no way that you will be able to wrest control of that particular zone from those particular insurgents.

Save up and make a counter-offensive into the city at a later date in such a situation as you can set the time and place for the next rat/etc. conflict. Rats and bedbugs are the worst things, roaches are pretty bad where they are pretty bad. City living requires due diligence in choosing domiciles. Certain things you cannot avoid(e.g. roaches in Manhattan proper, and on the rise: bedbugs in the same) but by careful choosing, you can minimize what you get stuck with. [In the NYC example, living JUST off Manhattan, as my sister does in Queens, has proven very good for them, on all critter battlefronts. They rarely have any skirmishes at all these days.]

Oh, make sure that you send me the correct mailing address for the TS5 thing for whenever i complete that one. It will be a bit. I am hoping for pre-xmas, but attempting to factor in drying time, it may be post-xmas in Reality.

4. Regarding gear hocking. That is a sad business indeed. I have never had to do that, but i have certainly wanted to be able to at various points of my hobo journey. In my case, i simply never have anything that is worth anything to anyone. It is kind of like a double-edged pro/con in one convenient package i guess. :poop:

5. Regarding flood-damaged gear. The main thing with all of it is to take it apart as much as possible and dry it out 100% before trying anything with it. I usually use a shitload of paper towels to start the process, and then a long period of air/sun drying. Guitars will normally come back about 100% aside from finish cracking, and occasional need for pot replacement, and if the neck is finished properly in the ultra-thick poly that everyone hates so much, it could very easily avoid any deal-breaking damage.

Even amps can survive, assuming that they are disassembled, and dried completely. Sometimes you have to take a toothbrush after it dries and clear off mineral deposits from the circuit boards that the water might have left, and you really want to give it weeks and weeks of drying time, but i have seen lots of gear survive a submersion, especially if it was not plugged in, or in some cases where it was just not on(like if the power goes out before the water comes in, and the gear comes out before the power comes back on).

It might work out okay for that stuff. Usually speakers are just fucked though. All kinds of odd shit happens when they get really wet, and i have never seen a speaker make it through a proper submersion before. In my experience they always need replacing.

6. Regarding Tascam acting-like-a-bitch-ness. Cam, does the recording system you used to use also not work now? It is possible that the Tascam's brain is fried. Possibly from static electricity, or from power surges, or from drops or whatever. It is also possible that some damage may have occured due to you using as much of the available phantoim power as you have been for you ridiculous amount of nice mics. I wonder if you might be able to get it to work better with a standalone phantom power setup? Assuming that the PSU on the Tascam has not sustained damage such as might cause it to be unable to function even with no phantom on from the unit itself.

The power supply is probably switch mode, and possibly not actually designed for the current draw you are asking of it. Meaning that the draw may have toasted something in the power section that may be fucking up other shit now too. It could even have caused its own power spike that might have towasted some of the i/o components even.

Did you buy the thing new? It should be under warranty still then? Or did you get it long enough ago that it is out? Do you have a receipt/proof of purchase still?

7. Regarding Future Of The Left Being Awesome Live. This is me being not-very-surprised-at-all. Snaxo, if you are into them, have you also acquired the Mclusky rekkids? A very similar sound and rock/lyrical vibe, from moastly the same folks. Pretty much all of it is very good, with only production quality varying very much between things.

8. Regarding SnaxoSoloRecord potentially becoming SnaxoBand With Other Members And Everything. Excellent. I do think that you have enough there and if you can, you should, play it out. :huzzah:

9. Regarding this poast being too long now. It is.

10.Regarding Tascam acting-like-a-bitch-ness, Addendum. Nevermind. As i read further, it seems to have been cured via software excorcism. Bully. :huzzah:

Always list a few bands with whatever descriptor as reference points. Some folks have some fucked-up ideas of what sounds are what types of sounds. :idk:

I usually find the list of bands/influences to be a much better descriptor than anything else folks use.

11. Regarding the Krampus Theme. It is a bit brain-hurty, but it is ours. I rather like the idea of a Krampus-based skin though.

The forum width and especially read/unread gif indication is a little difficult to suss out quickly. (Indeed, i was not able to really read very much of the forum from IL when the skin was in place, due to the limited access and time i had to sort through things.)

Just the same, Krampus requires our homage, however we give it. I can deal with it for a couple/few weeks, if it means more glory to the Krampus. As Tor says, the Krampus most certainly wold not want the layout to be any more clean and convenient than it is with that skin. It is in effect, kind of like a birch switching, for the eyes and mind.

:krampus:

Actually we've basically got the rodent thing licked now... land lady and I got together and fortified all the rodent entryways and there have been no incidents since. Nevertheless we are moving for more reasons than that, such as financial ones with my mate. I only have one early class to get to next semester, and it's not that early. It will be nice to be able to use the community centre gym again, and also to have all of my instruments and recording gadgets accessible, and to have room to stretch my limbs. Also not having to work part time at the old folks' home (not a bad job compared to past jobs, but not a good one either).
I have warmed up to moving back, it seems like a nice move now. Nevertheless it will suck ass making the long trips to do my urban band interactions.

Knowing rats though, if you were seeing that many of them, that often, that place is going down again.

The thing with rats, is that they hate people and people spaces. They will only ever go into them, when it is wayyy wayyy too crowded in the safe ratty spaces underneath, for the little baby/skinny runt rats to eat. Which also means that whatever rats you see, even the really big ones, are never really the Big Ones that are underneath.

Thus, seeing any really large ones, in addition to the large quantity of small ones you were getting, means nothing good ever, will be likely to come of that particular apartment space, and all you can hope for is some sort of ludicrouslycoldwinter kill-off, or some sort of ratplague that people are safe from(usually works t'other way 'round though).

Well, as far as I have seen there's been an army of mice and one repeat visiting asshole of a rat, who destroyed my eighty dollar derodentizer. Either way we'll be gone soon...

Yet I found out last weekend that my folks have discovered mice at their house.

Really though, mice are less of a big deal. At the very least, once the easy entrances are sealed, they can be killed off, even if it takes a while if there are a lot.

Just never ever ever poison them, for that is where mice become nightmarish, when they wander off to die inside walls and ceilings. Traps suck to clean out especially when it is a big family of mice involved but unlike rats, there is an end to mice, in trapping, closing off the holes, and keeping a supertight leash on food/dirty dishes/anything-that-looks-or-smells-mousedelicious. The fall/autumn time can be generally rougher just from the things trying to hide from the cold, but you can still get it under control.

I was under the impression that most of your apartment critters were small rats with the occasional large one. If it is mostly mice with really just one rat(they usually don't go by the ones though :red: ) then you may be okay there for a bit, budget/financial/instrument-availability things not considered.

The mice were pretty fucking stupid compared to that asshole rat. That rat really messed around with us.
