Funny how vogue bovine skulls have become, shit's all over DM art but now it's even on a Soundgarden cover?

They had to break up and re-form to finally get a cool cover. :red:

Not their best record. Not bad, but I'm not like "fucking awesome!" on first listen. A nice mix courtesy of Joe Barresi, though.

Currently, this:

Still my favorite record of hers. (And more thanks to Chris tha D for turning me on to this as well. A useful bastard, he is.) It's surprised me the people who should be aware of her who aren't.

I picked up her collaboration with David Byrne, Love This Giant, but it really hasn't grabbed me yet. It seems more "'cause we can" than a cohesive whole to me, and I do echo the reviewers in missing Annie's more, er, assertive guitaring there. My fave-o-rite lady singer-songwriter types all seem to more than hold their own as instrumentalists, not just competently but as unique stylists with some chops. (Ani Difranco, anyone?)

Chris is indeed good with the recommendations. I can thank him for a good lot of what I listen to these days. :huzzah:

Yeah, man. I really think she should have a much larger following, so incredibly talented. The music and voice are more than there and it has a distinctive catchiness to pretty much all of it. One would think she'd be making a lot of money or atleast have a massive cultish following by now? :idk: She certainly has a fanbase, but it is not much more impressive than any other current successful indie artist?

EDIT: ALSO, she is like, mad attractive, yo. That sort of thing can make a serious difference, so really she has everything going for her. She's done shit with Kid Cudi, so there's even mainstream pimping going on there.

Marry Me is definitely far and away her best work.

My fave-o-rite rekkid of hers, though I feel like an asswhole for saying it as it's her first full-length as St. Vincent and all. Doubly so having grown up with the metal scene, and you know how they are. (Of course the first one is the best one, they sold out after that, etc.)

Cam: re her looks, her album covers do not flatter her at all. Not that I'm in a position to judge (and she's younger than me; never ask a lady her age, but she said it first...), but I think they do the opposite and she looks much prettier in random shots or video footage. I think to a degree it's deliberate, too- they're beyond stark, and the David Byrne one they're both obviously distorted. Also, she is tiny! That Telecaster looks gigantic on her.

I think she looks rather nice here alongside Mr. Byrne:

New Converge, interesting vocal angle so far, first song is practically Rites Of Spring-y on the vox:

Wow, I never noticed the Picciotto similarities on Aimless Arrow, you're dead on about that.

Now that i have heard the whole thing, i definitely like it better than the last one. A lot better. I also like the manner in which they are letting Ben Koller go off of late.

Now onto a little more Ballou:

Which is still probably my favorite band of his... :red:

Just heard this for the first time, and I am not sure if I like it or not. I can tell I respect what is going on, but it might not be my thing taste-wise. However, I feel that Eric or Chris or someone who likes uh.. Weird whatever the fuck this is. New wave goth postpunk something or other.

It is kinda like Mighty Sphincter without some of the more chaotic almost metallic elements.

Reminds me a lot of Christian Death. Nasty, aggressive goth-punk. I like that it's realdrums. Sounds like a subset of old old goth and/or punk- "deathrock" you don't hear much anymore. (ie. the aforementioned Christian Death and Mighty Sphincter, .45 Grave, etc.)
