Does that include the pre-cowboys questionable glam?

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I am experimenting with a drastically different kick drum tuning method that i am really into the results of so far. Full heads(no holes) on both ends, and a lot more head tension on both than i normally use. Once they settle in, i will try the real test on monday to see if it recoards better as well. Don't know exactly what i am going to wind up with for a mic or where i will put it exactly.
Much nicer to play with though.

I am curious to hear the results. Especially considering your busy drumstyle and the no-hole front head.
How did you have it set up before and with what? You are rocking Ludwigs IIRC, yes?

That is part of changing evryting. Usually i run the tom and kick tunings very very low, almost as low as i can go without them buzzing out. And lately i have been running no resonant head on the kick at all from the time when i was trying to figure out where the best place to stick a mic might be inside there(before i went to the omni PZM solution).
I set this up on my second drumkit(which due to shortage requires cannibalizing the main kit to put together) which is some random Japanese biz from probably the 70s or 80s called LIDO. I usually use the LIDOs for more vintage soundy stuff like the surfrock, and i usually set them up tight and high pitched, with lots of stuffing in the kick so it is just a tight thud for that style.
Basically, aside from the differences in shell material(my Ludwigs are birch ply, while the LIDOs are that mystery meat dark colored mahogany-esque yuckply) the LIDOs are across the board, shallower drums for the same diameters. Which is basically the biggest part of why it is a different approach for me. Where i normally would go for longer tubelike drums, these are all shallow stubby ones. It seems to make all of the difference on the kick for sure. I
don't know for sure yet about the toms(though the floortom sounds much nicer at the moment than my Ludwig one) but when i was playing them earlier, i thought everything sounded decent. The main thing was how much better i was liking the kick though. It was interesting because i was going to retune my snare too because i have not been into its sound at all lately, but after doing the kick, the snare all of a sudden made more sense, just as it was. Moar tests required tho.

Having the extra kit to dick around with is a plus. I'm assuming it's hardware and cymbals you're appropriating from the main kit and grafting on to the second set of shells?
Re: snare tuning, how do you usually roll there? The snares I'm used to with my d00ds are polar opposites in tuning and material (materiél?), one's main snare being The Whumpsnare, an old Pearl custom jobber which I don't actually know if it's steel or plated brass (I will assume steel as brass in my experience tends to be very loud and this is sensible in volume), tuned very low and with thick heads, and the other a Pork Pie acrylic, smaller diameter but deep, well, depth-wise, tuned very high and tight. I prefer playing the latter for how the stick rebounds; jazzy ghost note and one-hand roll shit is easy as hell on that thing. For how I play drums- I don't have much interest in serious rockdrumming honestly other than to just play solid ideas down to a click; I like playing traditional grip and jazz more than rockstuff- I prefer the higher snare. I figure the mondosnare is really just someone's own thing- yeah, it sounds cool and works in context, but putting anyone else behind that is like giving them my guitar rig, with the heavy strings in standard E and the low gain and the pedals.
Or, for that matter, our bassist's rig with the distorted 5-string fretless with a pick, or Garda's Mr. Chris's rig with the old synths and the mid-gain sounds from the deathmetal amp. Come to think of it, Garda is a pretty fucked-up band making some rather unusual gear choices.

Last night I went out and later to minor house party and didn't drink. It was quite an interesting experience and it turns out that partaking in witty batter against drunk people isn't even sport haha. I did get hella baked though.

I can actually totally get behind this noise.

Cymbals, stands, pedals, tom mounting hardware.

Usually i go both heads pretty high, but the snareside lower than the batter. I will probably reverse that in testing though.

Yeah, I expected something significantly more lame based on rumour that they weren't heavy, but this is still heavy?
Tom mounting hardware? Is there anything weird you have to do to make that work? 'Cause I could see that being an issue.
My current thoughts re: snares are that I really like the higher top head for the feel of the thing. Drum tuning is such a strange creature, especially when it comes to recording the things.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Now that The Snaxoband is an official deal as of this past week (formalities regarding Rändy and I bringing people into The 'Drome on a permanent basis) we need to start finding people for serious. My initial inquires turned up a bunch of "that's awesome" and "I'll ask around" but no actual players. Granted that was like three weeks ago and I asked people who might know people- promoters, persons from other bands.
Seeing at this point I don't think anyone's been in that building longer (the first band having broken up/left) no one gives a shit about us, and I think that was someone's exact words, "I don't give a shit". Meant in the best of possible "I know you guys are cool" ways. People who have vacuum cleaners in their rehearsal spaces- surely you've seen some frightening band rooms?- are not likely to drag in a bunch of fuckups who will trash the place, get the called and be thrown out within the month.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Helped my mum move into her new flat today. It's actually really fucking nice despite her being miserable and saying it's awful. I get to flat-sit at the end of May when she's on holiday, will be good for some small booze ups It even has a balcony
So Im alive, that is pretty good. My wifes phone is the working one and of course she changed the language to Português. The auto-correct is annoying to say the least. Or as it would have me say: The auto-correr is amotine to saúde The lesar. Brazil is awesome though.

My mates birthday fancy dress is cartoon themed and I really want to go as Bender from Futurama, any ideas what I could make the head from? It's either that or Darkwing Duck but I think a cardboard Bender would be much cheaper/funner
