Not gonna lie, I would not mind some roadies. That is one thing that is very annoying to do for one's self. Even just one for the whole band- you want to move my drummer's flight case up the stairs? Fucking thing weighs like 300 pounds loaded. (Even empty it's like the manliest case ever; I think it's like an inch and a quarter or some shit.) It took a third person to get it up at the studio in any reasonable amount of time.

I too went into it with a lot of anxiety, as I have never had "help" and the idea of someone cleaning up after me always weirded me out. But, the thing is they just kind of fill in the gaps you leave behind. Like you finish eating and just put your dishes by the sink, or if you feel particularly lazy you leave them on the table. Then later, they are clean. Or you have a specific drawer in the bathroom for dirty clothes, and every other day the dirty clothes disappear. Then the next day they magically appear on your bed clean and folded. It's not like you sit their and watch them clean as you stir your scotch on the rocks. Also, they are fairly well paid, and are almost part of the family most of the time. Like by brother-and-sister-in-law's maid Fernanda was also mostly a babysitter, and she got a free vacation to a swanky beach-front vacation in Guaruja including food and a free room. She went to the pool, and the beach and ate well all in exchange for watching a couple of babies and intervening on them killing themselves on stairs. A few year backs she went to Disney World with them.

It is not as weird as you would think, mainly because it is so normal there that you just kind of go with the flow.

The good news of the day, was that i figured out, after removing almost every other more obvious component from the board, why your TS5 was so noisy. Also good, i had the thing up and running and more or less ready to go.

The bad news is, now i have to fix a couple paint chips, and figure out how exactly i am going to fit a battery in it.

On the battery, it is real close. If i had known how much of the components i would be pulling out, i probably would have said just cut the board down(the bottom half of it is practically unused without the switching shit in there) and it could have gone in much easier or in a smaller box. I don't generally like cutting prefab boards up though, so it is just as well. Mainly though, i just drilled the LED into a stupid place, forgetting that the space was already partially reserved for a 9v. Once my paint fixins are dry, i have a plan for it that should work though.

Really though, if i had known how much guff this pedlol would provide, i probably would have just said fuck it, and built a TS5 circuit properly from scratch.

In theory, i should be able to put this thing in the mail in a few days though. The trick is forcing myself to wait for clearcoat to dry completely, and this stuff i am using instead of the Krylon Crystal Clear that melted the old paintjob, i don't really like. It takes forever to dry and then it seems like a more fragile clear to boot.

If you made it from scratch there's a good chance it wouldn't sound the same, unless you reused everything! So what was making all the noise?

At this point there are very few of the original parts remaining. For giggles i have a JRC 4558 in the socket at the moment too. To me it basically sounds the same, though i didn't spend much time comparing chips really.

You had some microphonic caps all up in there, which was the red herring, though they did need to go. The main thrust of the crusty noise noise was coming from the buffer transistors on both ends of the circuit. I put some specifically low noise ones in their place and it is now very quiet indeed, where it is supposed to be.

Of course, it would be keeping in how things are going around here, if it was to turn out to be the broken transistors that made this thing sound the way you like.

For me, i can't say. To me it sounds the same, only without the bad noise.

EDIT: i misread "resistors" as "transistors". I haven't done anything with resistors except for the ones in the switching section that i pulled. The other ones remain. I will send back the pulled caps though, in case you might care to re-insert them at some point for experimental porpoises or something. Some of them had to be replaced though, just because i needed to have them able to lie flat so that the board would fit inside and allow the lid to close, which required new caps with longer legs.



I can look at it fo sho. If i were to charge anything, it would really depend on what it wound up needing. I have been renting your MXL990s so long that if it is a simple problem, i couldn't charge anything.

If it winds up being something more involved(phasers can be fiddly), i can let you know and we will see what you want to do.
