Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yep, when all's said and done you really can't beat a Les Paul going into a loud British-voiced amplifier. Especially if said Les Paul is tuned down to Eb and fitted with P90s Also do you guys find that with certain guitars, tuning down seems to "open them up" a bit? My SG sounds alright in standard but it always seems "stiff" and hard to play, a bit weak even. Just got it tuned down a step (learning to play The Czar by Mastodon ) and it sounds beastly, completely different animal altogether. Much less dry sounding and seems to sustain better for lead bits. I noticed it when tuning it down to Eb as well. Maybe the lower tunings seem to just resonate better with something, I dunno but it's always a noticeable difference

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
FUCK. Been rocking 10-52 in E for a couple years now, and sometimes when I switch over to someone elses' guit I feel like I should maybe play lighter strings because my fingers are so much quicker with the lighter resistance, though I feel controlling vibrato and whatnot is a lot less manageable and prefer the tone and feel of the thicker strings for picking. I'd like to try maybe a set of 9/10-50 or so. And you're thinking about going the other way, ya crazy bastard.

What gauge strings do you use, T?

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I 'spect that has a lot to do wif why you like the downtunings moar. Less tension means moar flop, which means the strings are wobbling over moar of the magnets, means you get different sounds out, in addition to the feel being less tight/precise. I generally tend to go the opposite of many guitarists and suggest that doods should use the smallest strings they can get away with, especially for standard tuning. To me, it just makes the guitar sound and act more organically. Sort of like the djent flub thing being integral to why those bands sound that way, but on an actually musically useful sort of angle. I would play 9s if i could really. But i cannot quite work it comfortably, so i stick with the 10s.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I'm so used to 11s that 10s just feel wrong under my fingertips now, I don't think I've used a different gauge for about 10 years now I might have to re-experiment with 10s but I remember them feeling wrong as well, they're too thin

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I can't control the lighter strings the way that I'd like, so that's why I use the heaviest things I can bend/vibrato decently. I do like to fight the guitar a bit; I feel more in charge of what I'm doing that way. I tried 9s again in the recent past out of curiosity and my left hand is just way too heavy to keep them in tune. For all my subtlety and weirdness, I riff like a sailor singing sea chanties.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Yarr, i went all the way up to 13s back in the day, and was actually contemplating doing some custom 14-based set when i cracked and went the exact opposite way back to 10s. Shit was weird for a while(but it was so awesome to be able to bend whole chords three or four steps up while it lasted, before my hand strength sort of leveled out for the weaker strings). I find 10s to be a bit borderline for D standard but still solidly workable, though much lower than that and it really starts to get a bit like playing with soup all over the fretboard or something. For standard E or normal dropped D though, on a 24.75" scale, i find them to be exactly correct these days.

10's on both my guitars. My Epi has higher action than my Strat so it all balances out. Downloading my drum program and I did this thing that Amazon has where they automatically send you certain items every so often. I subscribed to a 3 pack of Daddarios 10's for less than $8 shipped

Contacted the guy about the Epi LP Standard Plus. If he still has it, I am going to go play it, and if it does not suck, I will acquire it for not a whole lot of money. This would be the sitar in question:

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
My brain straight up aches from all the reading I've been doing today. Web Development fucking sucks because browser vendors can't get their shit together and standardize shit. Even if they do (which admittedly they are with shit like HTML5), there are so many dumbfucks not updating their fucking browsers or using fucking Internet Explorer that you still have to spend a metric shittonne of time making sure your script is not only cross-browser but also backwards-compatible. That means it has to be fucking cross-backwards-browser-compatible.
And fuck Internet Explorer in its fuck-hole.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Nonstop working at dem grilled cheese fueled blasts, dawg. I think if I keep at this I will be one blasty motherfucker. Without the double kick pedals to distract me, working on single strokes becomes almost fun. Do my goddamnest to set my hands ablaze with dat uric acid. Getting that rocking back and forth Moeller technique with the left hand is difficult, but I am quickly improving.
Also, this style that I am developing, the one that sounds like multiple people semi-expertly falling all over the drums, has me fairly stoked. I wanna record a short 20 second grind deal that sounds like horrible shiftiness. The HM-2 just got here, clearly that would be employed.
