Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I'm not saying this definitively but if it was all simple analog pedals he could probably just dry it out?

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Don't these things get water on them during the production process? As long as it was just water, and like Geoff said... Once it's dried out, it should be, I think, fine? Digital shit I don't know. I spilled an iced tea into a Macbook Pro years ago and I still use the thing. (Granted it was a Proper Iced Tea, Earl Grey with ice cubes in it, not a sugary thing, so...) So, the guitarist guy, he has kids and no time and doesn't want to do the band thing anymore. We have some connections though so we are looking for another guitarist and bassist to get this noise off the ground. Garda does not play out much at all, and me drummer and I will play out every day. We'll see how the live electronics guy works out re: availability, but we know he's at least good people and an excellent contact to have being a damn good promoter and all; I really do like him as a person from what I've seen, too. It's a bit of an embuggerance, as sooo much of my stuff mandates two guitars, and the bass parts are, well, you know how I play bass. I suppose I could sing over that, but I'm not entirely sure I'd want to. It would be a detriment to both. Besides, it would do us well to have a proper ladybassist who's a funk monster and can sing my backups on the choruses. I can Shanghai another guitarist if I absolutely need to for live work. Fucker's a better player than me by far, though this is not his genre and requested I show him the parts (he can read music just fine, but it's easier if I just show him how I'm doing it rather than trying to learn it by ear or me taking the time to write it out). He claims I am the better soloist because of my structures and melodies. I disagree, because his chops smoke mine. I do have good feel and tone though, and am all about the subtlety. Funny that it would even matter- this is, to a point, indie-punk stuff. But with, like, shredding. This makes me think, as I am wont to do at Fuckall AM, about the purpose of guitar solos in my own work. I don't play the metals on guitar these days and haven't for some years now. Said solos are actually stylistically inappropriate. I view them in two ways: extensions of the rock tradition, the more melodic ones (hell, all the '90s grunge bands that washed-up hair metal asswholes on the forums claim killed the guitar solo, well, soloed- that stuff was classic rock through and through) or violent bursts of violence, the real shreddy ones. And that's how I employ them. I am not obligated to use them. I'd like to think I'm actually a tasteful soloist and my deployment of them as a songwriter serves a function. I solo when I feel the song needs it and in a style appropriate for the material. Garda sees none of the shredly bits at all; I think Chris and I have four solos between us in all the original material; mine are structured and composed melody things that never, ever vary; his are jammy improvs. Even when we do covers it's the same. We'll do Iggy Pop and I play the same solo every time. We'll do Concrete Blonde and he makes it up on the spot. I do love that dichotomy and wish we had the time to work more.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
His pedals all made it out just fine. I told him just open the back put everything in a large tub with some rice and it will be fine. His brother helped him out.
But yeah, I have a backup that I bring all the time, a Palmer Pocket amp, and could have easily given that to him, and why he left without even talking to me was really odd. He's to self centered and has quit the band 3 times in the past year for silly shit. We have done shows without him before, we just sound better when I can play keys during key parts, etc....
The incident happened at the start of our 80's medley which is 27 minutes long, the bass player turns to me about a minute in and says, it's all you, Sean's out, so I thought we would finish the medley and I'll get him my backup. Next thing I know, he not on stage, nor his gear.
In response to Eric's novella above, yeah this music business would be much easier without all these flaky musicians. Well, ok, how about people that are musicians actually get paid instead of having to work multiple jobs, or living broke. I would like to see your project live, I believe it would be a grand old time.
My guitar solos have always been melody based and never jammy jammy ones. Obviously now since I'm doing all covers, I am dictated as to what I play, since we are doing flat out covers rather than our own version covers which I would prefer but it is paying the bills so...

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
It is sort of annoying being far better at DM vox than somebody I know in a particularly popular up and coming band who gets praise all the time as being an amazing vocalist and whatnot by every one. No one gives a fuck about me, but I make this kid sound like a goddamn joke when you hear the both of us in person (which is clearly shown upon the faces of people who hear us in the same room), a large amount of his sound is studio. Multi-tracked to fuck on most things and all embiggened by reverb and compression/EQ. Not to sound like an arrogant bastard, but I know I sound like the fucking devil himself with just an SM58 and some compression, and this asshole is getting all the credit. Said person also tries to minimize the cred of other people all the time, talks shit about people who like "serious" music and makes them sound like they are pretentious dicks just because they don't enjoy the "great, simple songwriting" of tons of these shitty nu metal/christian rock bands he jocks because "he doesn't feel the need to impress other people with his taste in music". He belittles indie/weird rock shit all the time and I have to pretend like I don't hate the fuck out of him because we have a lot of mutual friends and I admittedly benefit from knowing him, meet lots of people and get to go places I normally wouldn't were it not for the "friendship". Man, I am just sort of an asshole.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Two things: dude needs to grow up. And you need to make a better metal record than he has. I don't doubt you can do it, either, and your production will undoubtedly be much cooler. If more "serious", .

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
First part, yes: In many, many ways. Not that I don't need to too. Second part, that is going to be hard. Objectively atleast, this band is wellllllll respected. I mean, I probably shouldn't even be talking about this shit on a public forum (even though this is definitely way back in the recesses of the internet) so I won't name names (though it would be very easy for anyone who knows me IRL to figure it out) but this band gets hyped HARD. Album of the year for this past year on a bunch of metal websites... Subjectively though, Kaleb, Ian and I are going to bring the fucking pain.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Sampled my drummer's snare. We're working on a new song and want to put a delay on the snare in a section, so we're gonna stick his own snare on his sampler. Used a Shure Beta 58A on the side of the shell and just the two Rode NT5s for overheads, spaced pair, all going through our Yamaha board then into a MOTU 828, no compression or anything, just live in the room. It's sorta halfassed, but I'mma make something of it and see how it sounds.

Well I think mostly as a collective this is what makes us Maplitonians. Nothing wrong with being good at what you can do as an artist and knowing it. We could just be called Mapsholes. And I too would love for you to record a full ton of DM. And you would deliver.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
It is sort of funny, I excepted this trip to be a songwriting time: I haven't written a fucking thing besides some words. What I have been doing is getting my fingers far more agile than they have ever been. I've also now not smoked marijuana in about a week, so when I go home I will have spiffy new chops and the ability to get high as all fuck. This is a very good thing, THAT is where the writing will happen.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
An observation: It is very humorous to read about people talking about their own music with a big ego. "Yeah, this is a really great song, probably on par with blah blah blah". And I mean, if the songs really aren't that good..

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
We tracked some vocals for the metalliband last night. The metalliband has never really had vocals before. The vocalist is very professional in his MO and his performances. I appreciate that very much.
