Making outlines for songs to record geetarz and drums to.. Got shut down today on recording stuff, was a bummer. Too much loudness.

In a continuing saga of self disappointment, I am still fighting metronomes and shitty guitar chops. Particularly of the quick rhythmic variety. If only I would stop writing things I can't play.

There is nothing better for one's chops than writing stuff you can't play. It beats practicing other people's stuff. It's, if not the only reason, than the biggest that I'm any damn good at the thing.

Been doing some temp work for a friend of mine the last couple days. Which is good because i need to order heating oil Really Soon and am broke, but also because i just generally need to be working for money somewhere right now. It isn't 5 days a week or even maybe 7 days a month, but it is something.

The type of work is like a totally tedious assembly of materials for corporate entities such as Baskin Robbins, like: the instruction manuals for soft serve machines. Interestingly, i don't hate it, though it certainly is fairly tedious and repetitive. There is something about determining the most efficient way to manufacture a complex thing that i enjoy actually. I like designing an assembly line order and method, determining how best and quickest to put a thing, or rather eight thousand of a thing, together.

Played a show last night in Durham. It went pretty well. Opened for a French band called Daria.

Friend of mine's band (the same band that I asked for critiques on) opened for Queensryche Sunday night. This Queensryche is the one with Rockendfield, Wilton, Jackson and the singer from Crimson Glory Todd something. Show was great. QR did all the older stuff nothing newer than Empire, so 2 songs off the EP, 4 off Warning, 3 off Mindcrime, 3 off Empire. I don't remember them doing anything off Rage. Tate can't hit the notes anymore, but this guy can. Still doesn't feel like QR without Tate and DeGarmo. IMHO.

It went well. 8 song set, played just short of an hour. We played at a cool little spot called Motorco in Durham which has a "Garage Bar" that is as it sounds, big room with big garage doors open to the outside.

The Tron amp did well, though I think I need to look into a 4x12 to combat the other guitarist's Rockerverb 100 -> Fender 4x12 setup. I ended up using the Talman over the Jazzmaster as it was being a little more controllable in the feedback department.

No idea when the next show is, but I'm pumped to start playing out more. There is actually a video of the event, which I will post when I get my hands on it.

That's pretty cool. I didn't know Tate was out of the band. I've seen Queensryche. Saw them open for Iron Maiden on the Brave New World tour, and they were very good live. I suppose at this point they are essentially a cover band of themselves from twenty-and-change ago. That's not necessarily a bad thing considering what a lot of classic metal did to itself in the mid '90s. (And this is coming from someone who actually likes the Metallica records from that time.)

Officially, publicly advertize'd for the New Band. Now, Garda has a show on Friday in the biggest non-arena venue here. That, is fucking cool. It could very well be our only show this year, though.

The recording's actually pretty clear sounding and it makes me think the mix in the room wasn't bad. I can't make out what guitar and amp yer using though, so if I may ask: what rig are you rocking live?

We've already got some hits re: The New Band and I'm in the process of scheduling guitarist/bassist auditions for next week. Oh, and at least one of them can play synth, too.
