I would love to hear how a computer handles your last name. I would not be surprised if it just shat itself trying. They get mine fucked up and its a very simple name. Now before Ellis Island got a hold of it would have been great for robo-pronunciation, there used to be a Cz in front of the rest.

These Slavic names seem to give computers a run for their money. Also the Polish were great for throwing in a few extra "Z"s where ever they could. They were like:

"Fuck, we have all these Z's hanging around, what do we do with them"

"Oh dude, fuck it, throw a few in everyone's name. If we have these laying around someone's gonna get wind of it and think we're not doing our job"

Also, random hollowbodies are wonderful. I buy one every 2 years, then sell it within 2 years... I think I just have not found the "one" yet. 339 was close

Without doing any research that looks like a dot studio, which from the ones I have played are pretty solid guitars.

As a matter of fact, I almost bought one. But then the Talman popped up and that was that.

It is. I just played one today at the guitar store near my house. The one pictured is at a guitar store a ways away, and they want a lot less for it 'cause it has a busted toggle switch. (I think I can handle that...)

Verdict was that it was very well made and a good player. Pickups I can't vouch for as I was playing through a Blues Jr., which sounded thin and middy. Tuners need to go, but I tend to dump those anyhow. If I can get a ride out there, I should snag it.

I also played an Epi LP Standard that kinda shocked me. I've played a lot of Gibsons that were worse and cost a hella lot more. I wish I could have snagged that one off of CL for two bills. I shouldn't really even say "worse" because it was a very good guitar; there was nothing wrong with that at all, and a lot of things right.

I acquired the Dot Studio. It's a much nicer one than the one I played yesterday, too. It needs a new toggle switch. But: it's a killer sounding guitar. Buck fiddy out the door.

It's a really fine guitar. Looks much nicer in person than in that picture, too. I think I have developed a thing for cheap hollowbodies; we were there for hours and there's a few more I would have walked out the door with had I the money. The Epi stuff, at the moment, is at a very high level of quality, by the by. This confirms my findings from the other day.

They had- to me, anyhow- a gorgeous one- I believe a Wildkat Royale- in gunmetal grey metalflake with silver sparkle binding, dog-ear P90s and a proper Bigsby that I would have walked out with had I more money. The visual suits my aesthetic so perfectly and it was a really spiffy guitar. Great neck; we found we could get a fair bit of travel out of the Bigsby too. There was a trans red hollow Les Paul looking thing from some off brand I'm forgetting at the moment, it played well but sounded kinda eh- but looked really cool- they only wanted two bills for, and I'd fix that up with new pickups just to see. Of course the big Gretsch and Ibanez (I've always liked their hollowbodies) stuff was nice, but that's to be expected.

Oh, and my friend got an HM-2 for twenty bucks, bastard. His has a working indicator LED and all the knobs on the pots. Offered 'em a twenty and they said fuckit, why not? Granted he's been a regular there for aeons and the staff is on a first-name basis with him.

They had a Dano 6-string bass, like their equivalent of a Bass VI, tuned E-E, which didn't sound that bad and certainly looks neat, but NON-ADJUSTABLE BRIDGE and the intonation, I think, involves donkeys and Tijuana. Less than good. Irked, I were.

So that was my guitar store experience for the day. Oh, and the new TC delay pedal is cool. The Way Huge one was alright, but we couldn't get it to oscillate like the EHX, and it was kind of murky. They were out of MXR Carbon Copies. We are delay hookers, for serious. Dood has a :snax: and he's still looking for Moar Delay. I, well, used to have an Eventide and same here.

Which TC delay wazzit? Flashback?

An HM-2 with all of its original knobs is hardly an HM-2 at all. I would check the board and see if it is not just DS-1 in the wrong box. :red:

I do believe it was the Flashback, yes. We thought it clearer than the Way Huge and it did the oscillation thing... Better. Though still not what the EHX would do. He used to have the EHX and sold it to Chris From Garda 'cause he was broke and needed to, well, pay the bills.

The HM-2, well, does sound like an HM-2. We were laughing our asses off as we're playing that with my new hollowbody through a Fender Deluxe in the back room and it sounds like Entombed. It's just That Sound, no matter what you play through it or it through. Tele --> AC30, same deal, with mine. Fabulously shitty piece of kit. Oddly, I like it as an Awfulfuzz or as a bass distortion.

Mine, of course, has a broken indicator LED and is missing one of the knobs, as is proper for such an apparatus. :monocle:

Re: the delay, we were tampering with Soundtoys Echoboy after we got back to my place, and he's never done anything with it before! I was shocked, because it's only the best (digital) delay out there and I want it in a pedal. Truly astounding what that thing can do.

On an unrelated note, my housemate got me a new laundry basket. As we are from The Internet, I paid her in bacon. I am not kidding.

Speaking of semi-hollows I want to buy, I played on of these during Cam's visit:

Image

The one I played was black, and there is a very sexy White model which is sexy but a few hundred more dollars for a different paintjob and gold hardware I don't love. I really dig that Walnut finish though.

It played quite nicely though too, and was very loud unplugged. I didn't get a chance to plug it in, but I also don't have the cash in hand to buy one anyway. Though, I think that may be my next gear purchase which will sadly have to wait until I get myself a desktop pc.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
So I am getting ready to sell a bunch of stuff to get myself a desktop PC. I like my laptop, it's actually a powerful machine, but it is not at all conducive to working for extended periods of time.

Here is what I am thinking specwise:

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($189.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($24.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($134.49 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($51.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($67.99 @ NCIX US)
Storage: Crucial M4 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($72.51 @ SuperBiiz)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card ($199.99 @ Microcenter)
Wireless Network Adapter: Rosewill RNX-N150PCe 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT Tempest 210 ATX Mid Tower Case ($44.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: SeaSonic 520W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($74.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($15.98 @ Outlet PC)
Monitor: Asus VE278H 27.0" Monitor ($229.99 @ Newegg)
(Generated by PCPartPicker 2013-04-08 15:41 EDT-0400)

I tried to strike a nice balance of value and performance, and this thing could definitely handle pretty much everything I would throw at it with room to expand if necessary. I decided that I liked the idea of onebigscreen after working on the wife's Mac, so I put a 27" monitor on there.

I wonder how much I could get for my laptop nowadays. Surely a few hundred dollars I'd imagine.

I have heard good things about the new hollowbody. Satan I'm hailin' the man. :nods: I really need to go to sleep. Also, nicked an old Mac + monitaur out of the trash on the way home; may use it as an intarwebs-box in my room 'cause my laptop has lost its whatnots. The newspaper my drummer works for was throwing it out.

I am on a really-close-to-normal sleep schedule here. And it is weird. I guess it will be okay for the coming warmer weathertimes. But it is weird.

Weird and wrong.

I thought for a second you played the Dot through the HM-2. I'm pretty sure the feedback resulting from a hollowbody through an HM-2 would completely destroy the space-time continuum.

But those are certainly enjoyable guitars. My dad has one, and I find myself playing it every once in a while for shits and giggles...but the neck is really nice and it gets some interesting tones.

I have spent the last week in France. I ate weapons grade stinky blue cheese with high frequency. I also had many fine fine boozes.

Oh, it was done, but it was the d00d I bass for playing it, through a Fender Deluxe. It is that tone. I've played a Tele --> AC30 with that pedal and it's The Same Damn Sound. It's rather impressive, actually, that pedal, in its ability to make everything sound the same. We were pretty loud, enough that we'd have to stop playing to hear over the thing decently; a cranked Deluxe in an 8x10 room is not that quiet. I did note with the AC30 + OCD at rehearsal it did feed back a fair bit at drummer volume. But I am okay with this; given my style, I want some feedback and control over said feedback.

The few of the Dots I've played, yes, the neck is very nice and the fretwork is good, too. It's a shockingly well-built instrument. 'S why I bought it. I used it at rehearsal the other day and the rest of the guys in my band were fond of it, both how it played and the tone, clean or filthy. There was a new song we chose the Tele for, but that was essentially a production decision.
