To Chris: unfortunate, but humorous. What are you trying to record, anyhoo?
I had drum curiousities. Now, i haven't played my drums since something like last August, but i had this camera i got for a nerdproject, which i just got a new lens for, and i had drum curiousities.
I have now determined that i could reduce the camera's fps to take a lesser taxing upon the laptop's cpu, but while closer to somewhat accurate, closer to somewhat accurate is not really enough for the pictures to look like the sounds sound, really:
The next step would have been seeing if i could run my realmics/audio interface instead of the clearly overmatched built in omnis on the camera, but i would guess that if the setup as is, is lagging and complaining, adding the interface to the mix is not likely to improve anything but perhaps make the sound quality of the expected even more mismatched audio, somewhat less distorted.

I really should have been playing the drums these last few months, or at least got back into the swing of it some, before recording anything, but i had drum curiousities Right Now, and well, what can one do.
Signed a lease for the badass apartment downtown. Shit is about to get interesting.

You do have your snare taped up like someone who dislikes their snare though. :p
Yarr, started doing that a few months ago before i kind stopped playing. Combination of shitty snare and the wrong type of head. Without the tape, the thing just disappears from the mix. The way this one rings makes it sound like it has reverb on it. Lots of reverb. And it really messes up faster stuff, blending the hits together. The tape helps a little to focus the thing better.
And i am a person who absolutely hates tape on drums. It is a lazy mans' drum bandaid, generally the sign IMO, of someone who needs to learn how to tune something.

I like most of what you put on this. I agree with Cam, I had reading other posts while listening, I looked up to check the time on my favorite bit, which was around 1:16. Loved that shit yo.

I tuned my hollowbody to open C to cover that particularly dreary Ani song I poast occasionally. I'll see if I have a way to record video if we're going to do a video thing.

There is something about this specific time of year/season, that just always seems to get to me, regardless of how i am feeling heading into it. My brain just doesn't seem to like late spring.
Or maybe it is just the coincidental visits of one or more parents that generally fall around this window.
Hmmm. Yeah, probably that then.
I rarely emerge from May, not feeling doomed.

I'm growing increasingly tired of British weather now. I got fucking rained and hailed on yesterday. At the end of cunting May with bank holiday bbqs and beer garden drinking looming for the weekend ahead I can't remember the last year we had a good consistent summer, its just been generally shit with the odd nice day/week since about 2010 I think? And it's still cold, I wouldn't mind the rain so much if it brought a bit of warmth.
Oh and I saw a guy wearing a t-shirt that said YOLO on it last night. twat

Mixed feelings here for me. Bands are busy, GnR has 4 gigs June, pop band has 8, and my re-emerging acoustic thing has it's first gig. We are doing 3 piece this time adding a girl singer in there as well. While being busy musically is so rewarding, it makes the family suffer. Chick and I get no time together because when I am home I spend all my time with my kids, homework, playing, whatever they want or need. Good thing is I have no gigs Friday or Saturday so I will spend my time at home. I do have a great gig on Monday at a place called Claudio's which is the big place to play on Memorial Day (for our US Citizens) It's on the water at the end of Long Island and Memorial Day is the kick off of summer.

Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
I can only imagine how difficult that is to deal with. That's far busier than I've ever been. My ex used to come to the rehearsals and even come to shows out-of-state (except with the one band; something about the drummer being a d-bag) and just sit in the corner playing video games on the laptop. (We had some huge, huge rehearsal rooms too, so totally unobtrusive). No kids involved, though, of course; just the two of us so it wasn't much of an issue. Thirteen shows in a month ain't bad, not at all. Balancing a non-band career, a solid gigging schedule that would be enough for me to not bother with a "real" job, and the ol' Wife 'n' Kids (my apologies to G'n'R)...
On my end re: bandthings, we are trying to sort out the bassplayer thing. He may still be onboard; we have a final session scheduled for songs I'm singing lead vox on, and he's been looking into some things. We have a good thing going, and frankly, if it all disintegrated tomorrow, I'm outta this town ASAP unless the studio thing winds up coming through. We also discussed setting up our own; I would run it as engineer, and pocket everything beyond the rent; the band rehearses there. We have enough gear to do it, too.
I really don't know where my mind is at these days; I can't concentrate enough to get anything useful accomplished. I have flashes of ideas, but I can't expand on them, re: music or lyrics. Or life in general. I can put together a couple minutes of piano shredding or a vague idea for a cover song, or a Garda demo, or whatnot, but I can't think coherently enough to make some sense of my life.

Also, I don't know why I didn't think of this before: given my shitty financial situation, if I have to work some crapass job... I applied at GC. Fuckit, why not? I can talk gear- hell, I like talking gear- I'm personable, I've had to service customers before, as it were in my capacity as department head and lord Cthulhu knows I could handle that shit with ease. Pay sucks, hours suck, gear on the cheap is cool, don't care, need to pay the bills.

Husqvarna. They have contracts with most of the big Swedish makers to build the things for them. This one was probably forged by Hultafors.
The Husqvarna branded ones though, are way cheaper than any of the ones direct from the makers. Main difference is that the edges are ground a bit rougher, i.e. not fully finished to those maker's normal specification(they normally ship properly shaving sharp). I have files and stones, so for me it is totally worth it. Even counting the fact i am an idiot and cut my finger cleaning the blade after the fact.
