I'm not into the Corpsegrinder era of Corpse much. There is little notable development from album to album, sort of an AC/DC thing.

There is something to be said for Obituary's brand of over the top-ness.
Other than listening to Celtic Frost, I don't know how they could have come up with such serious swamp groove.

You have to love when you switch the setting of a youtube video from 240p to 480p, and it hardly makes any difference in sound quality.

On the subject of Cannibal Corpse, saw them just the other night. Holy fuck, sloppiest drummer I have ever seen in a professional band. It was badass though.

Maybe he was all thrown off by his back. Apparently his back is horrrrible now. In a film they did with their last album they talk all about it and show him throwing out his back while recording, and then tying himself upside down to undo the damage.

Mostly, I think it is because his technique is so WTF inducing. He is like, wildman attacking everything. Crazy movements, and I think that it kills his stamina though I am sure that his back is probably a factor.

Having used a good bunch of most of that shit, yes, it is. There is something about a properly equipped high end studio that is... Damn. Do you need all that shit in one place to make a good sounding record? Hells no Silent Bob. But is certainly is fun to have!

There's something about the hands-on, tactile nature of hardware when making a record, to plug into a thing and go "that's the sound!"- and sometimes it's a sound, or a sonic character, you recognize from who knows how many records.
