I haven't shaved in like two weeks.

Pretty sure I am losing my hearing at a fairly rapid rate. Thing is, 80% of the time I wear hearing protection when I drum. And I've pretty much only played acoustic guitar. I went to see Dillinger Escape Plan and Norma Jean last night at Summer Slaughter and the hearing in my left ear is slightly impaired compared to my other. And real oddly, every once in awhile things sound like they have a reverb effect applied to them or like they have bass frequencies suck out of them. And what I mean by the bass thing is: sometimes voices sound like they are the chipmunk'd version, though that has mostly subsided since last night.

This is nothing new and I am not too worried about anything too drastic coming from this particular instance, but I am pretty sure I could fairly easily destroy my ears if I don't take better care of them.

Time to start wearing earplugs at shows.

I find the usual squishy orange ones are too effective, so I slice one of them in half lengthwise and use the halves. That works for me.

I use the same ones I wear for rehearsal/gigging. The blue Hearos- the rubber ones, not the foam. They make the high end seem a lot more natural than the foam ones. Funny, sometimes the mix seems a lot better with plugs in, especially at a certain (large) venue around here. I swear the guy's mixing with plugs in.

I feel like if after 24 hours there is still a lot of problems with my left ear (I still hear a ringing) that I might have actually done some bad shit?

I always feel I should wear earplugs for going to gigs and stuff, just worried they'll make everything sound dull and crap. I had the worst ringing for days after the last gig I went to. My ear buzzed each time I heard something a bit loud as well.

I hate earplugs. I have tried the hearos ones, fuck them. Seriously fuck them. I believe you really have to get the fitted ones that don't kill the top end to make it worth it. I don't go to many blast blast blast metal shows any more but the GnR thing get really fucking loud at should where I have to use in ears or I would lose hearing badly. Especially bad on stage when the stage is boxed in... A show we did in Penn about a year or so ago was so loud on stage I could not hear anything for days clearly and on stage I could not distinguish my guitar from the rest of the noise. I have heard people praising the Westone and Sensaphonic ER series.

What about the Etymotic ones? I have heard good things of them, and they are not expensive for the basic models at all:

I keep on meaning to get some to try out, but i haven't really been exposing myself to loud noises lately at all. I should just get some anyhow though. My hearing really should not be subjected to any more of my bullshit.

I guess my weird solo/collabo project is doing a split with one of my friend's bands. They are very much like, middleclasssadboycore ala Dads and I will be using my most middleclasssadboycore-esque cuts to form some amount of continuity. Which there still really won't be.

Well, I guess now that it's not happening, I can let the cat out of the bag. Abnormality was SUPPOSED TO be touring Europe in October. But the tour fell apart.

Guess I'll blow some of that plane ticket money on gear or something.

Damn. That would have been one hell of a tour.
