Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Thing is, i don't so much want more money, as i want less stress, and not to feel like i have to be at a workplace ten hours a day six days a week.

But i keep taking these little temp-style jobs, digging trenches and shit. And i must just be too good at digging trenches and shit. And so i keep finding myself getting put on the fucking dragging-huge-stone-blocks-up-the-side-of-the-pyramid, crew. An then all of a sudden, there i am, with a godamned full time job again.

I need kind of a shockingly small amount of money to live, pay bills, pay taxes, etc. It probably amounts to about twelve days, total, of work, per month.

But i am just too good at digging trenches, see.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
Stress at the job is what it all comes down to. I have had hard working jobs a lot that might be physically exhausting and some were like non-stop, I remember I was a mover is LA working for shit money but worked 28 days straight, mostly over 8 hours closer to 10-12 hours/day. It was rough physically but mentally it was just pick this up, move it here... This shit of designing networks making shit work on the fly can stress a nigga out big time. I go home way more tired than I did when I was a mover. I think a lot of it has to do with having to work with other people too. I have to deal with technical people who at on my level and generally are hard people to deal with. (myself included) I generally want to say "just fucking set your router to do this!" but hard to do that when I need the guy on the other side to work with me. I have a huge project going down the next 2 weeks with this weekend being a cutover to a new system so stress level guaranteed to rise.

I think you have it right Chris. If you can keep the stress out, and just live on what you need, you are much better off. I am about tired of working so much to have so little to show for it.

Oh I've been doing temp jobs for the past three months... pure grunt work there. Unloading trucks, shoveling sludge...

I see what you're saying Chris. Over here there are agences, in fact that is what I was doing, where they call you in to random places to do temp work for a day or two, and then you move on. That would help you avoid your situation. But the pay is dismal, since the agency is shaving a bit off the top.

Post Re: Blog/tweet about shit in your life here
So I've only had Internet access via work wifi since last week as we moved house and its made me way more productive. I've been playing a fuck load of guitar and finally got cracking on making a video from all the random footage I've acquired from the past few years, mostly biking stuff. Also, thats how I know I'm in the right job - was up at 6am to get to work for a 10hr shift of video editing, then came home and edited my own video for fun for the rest of the night. And I'm still looking forward to finishing it off in my evenings after work this week. I have to say, its a good life I live right now :isay:

Edit - well something had to give, on my way to work this morning I had my wing mirror taken off by a speeding oncoming car  they didnt stop so I'll have to pay for it, utter cuntery. Still, at least they only hit my mirror and nothing else.

I got a free guitar and practice amp the other day. Both new. Perks of working in a corporate guitar store, of which there are few.

One of these:

and one of these:

The guitar is actually pretty fantastic. Mustangs are fun as shit to wail on. The amp is about what I expected, a fun little practice amp for home but it's pretty noisy.

Played moi first show eva on Thursday. Was just Landon and I. Vocals switched between death growls, yelling/singing stuff and then falsetto oddness. I definitely fucked up like 5+ times, though I guess either no one noticed or no one was honest enough to admit it to me. :red:

All in all, it was real goddamn fun. Dude who runs the place invited us to play on the 4th to replace some metalcore band on an all metalcore bill. We said yes. :red:

Guitar'ing as well, indeed. It is like, silly mathrock with the occasional grind freakout. There are a couple tunes in their instrumental form in the Oddeas section of the forum.

I wish my band played more shows. It sucks bad enough to not be getting paid for playing, but we play so infrequently we can't get a strong following and the lack of practice can really shine through.

I'm actually thinking of trying to start my own band. I'd like to have some material ready though, at least some starts to songs that the band can build upon. I've written a couple of noisy-rock songs that ended up being pretty catchy (my love for pop music has tainted all my music with its curse of catchiness it seems.) Flushed out, they might actually be some fantastic tunes.

I'm currently doped up on painkillers and cold medicine as I battle a respiratory infection, but this handy little mustang mini amp has usb out so I might record some scratch tracks. I haven't posted clips of my playing recently.

About what I'd expect, Mr. Cam. :nods: I assume there has to be a bit of mathrock/hardcore fanbase crossover, and certainly at least some of those folks are open to the harder grindy stuff. You should be able to find folks to appreciate your noise even if you have to beat the appreciation into them. Maybe you should beat them, anyhow. :cop: Alsoalso, being a sound engineering person gives you a leg up on other folks in re: getting yer stuff out there.

To Dev: I get that. Even when all the band members are solid-to-really-good players, the lack of cohesive rehearsal is apparent. And I get the pop/must-be-catchy thing. Even when I'm working with more abrasive styles/sounds, that element is always there.

Non-music-related: it appears I'll be going back to school, finally, for me historything.

Huzzah! I too am about to go back to school for programming. Gotta start makin' dat paper.

Here's the type of noise I have been messing with lately. Straight USB out from the Mini amp into reaper, it sounded pretty crappy so I didn't bother to polish the turd but at least it is audible: https://soundcloud.com/devin-currie/noi ... tch-tracks
