 Re: The Chris Thread
Vinyl 7" records with proper announcer voiceover and non-rock instrument emulation, is exactly how they should sell dirt pedals even today.
So square, it would be hip.

 Re: The Chris Thread
Kinda makes me want one. Though no good could come of it, as I've never played a tuba. A trombone, yes, but a tuba, no. Actually, that might make it all the better. As it's a very large instrument, and loud, and projects well, and this is a residential area.

 Re: The Chris Thread
The funny thing is, if you said a lot of those things in my local accent (Rothwell/Desborough in Northamptonshire) they'd sound completely at home right now. Especially arfarfan'arf and chuckaboo. I guess I live in a pretty backwards/weird area I'll have to record a soundbite of me saying a few things

While i applaud the fellow's desire to build instruments from garbage, i cannot feel but that it is unfortunate that he chooses not to use this motivation, for evil.

 Re: The Chris Thread
I am in the middle an odd dilemna. I can't seem to get "close enough" sounding close mic sounds on guitar. With a PR40 and a Beta 57 pushed up against the grille cloth of every cab I have used there is still a good amount of room sound in the mics. Granted, this room is very lively sounding and whatnot but could that really be making it's way into the mics? It is becoming a serious fucking pain in my ass. I intend to try tracking in the small storage room in the corner but just haven't got around to it yet. I suppose that'd answer my question, but whatever.

 Re: The Chris Thread
In my experience, a close mic will not pick up THAT much room. And FROM my experience, i would say, make sure the mic is facing the way you think it is. But no, if there is no reverb or delay on the guitar, a mic all up in its grill and shit, should sound all up in the grille and shit, (almost) regardless of what kind of room. That said, cardioid pattern mics with a tight pattern will make it even more so. Omnis or mics that act a bit omni, like some of the "wide cardioid" shit that some condensers do, WILL pick up a bit of the room, and sound a bit less "SM57 RIGHT FUCKING THERE".

 Re: The Chris Thread
Well the PR40 is a cardioid and the beta 57 is a supercardioid if memory serves, so maybe try a hypercardioid mic if you have one.

 Re: The Chris Thread
is it an open back cab that's causing the problem or all cabinets? or just all cabinets? are you micing the same speaker, or different ones in a cabinet? definitely give a go to multimicing the same speaker, if you're not-- but otherwise.. i'm wondering if you have a mic cable with reversed leads? have you swapped cabling? if it's a phase issue-- try something like this on one of your guitar tracks and manipulate it until you minimize the problem. https://www.audiocation.de/en/plugin#fragment-4 hell.. it's free. i can't imagine using either of those mics jammed up on a grille and hearing ANYTHING else, honestly.. that IS weird! the only other thing i can think is-- is it open drum mics, or mebbe something else wasn't muted (forgive me if that's totally DUH... but if you're like me.. it's always the simplest possible thing.. ). check your routing too to make sure you're not routing signals together. also-- make sure you don't have multiple sends out and open.
