Am, band's called Ovlov. Very explodey-ly revcorded poprock. No one else really seems to hear it, but I pick up mad GBV influence, and not just the production.

Actually the Sebadoh elements i hear, are probably actually more like early Dinosaur Jr elements. Massive guitar/bass crossed with the wee thin vocal thing.

Actually, thinking about it some more, it is like You're Living All Over Me, with the guitar sound from Weezer's first couple records. With a dash of Kevin Shields style guitar wobble thrown in for spice.

Cam, if you had been around this coast in the mid-90s, we could have had a pretty slick band.

I should have been more specific, the GBV influence I hear is mostly in the vocal melodies and the later of crust over everything, particularly the drums. And yeah, that thing sounds amazing. The snare sound particularly is ballin' as fuck.

And we undoubtedly would have. I'd imagine though, it might not be much like this, atleast not for long. I think it'd take a turn for the batshit right quick.

Yeah, it wouldn't sound anything like this. I don't do bands that sound very much like the bands i like.

Nor do I really for the matter. They usually end up a clusterfuck amalgamation of a few different things I like. I'd imagine the same would happen granted we were in the same band.

So, I went from listening to Morbid Angel, to this:

I like the idea of this record... but i don't really like the execution at all. Maybe it is the sort of straightforward dull keyboard sounds? I feel like they have lost too much; her guitar sound on the previous record had a lot more interesting corners to it. This sounds like midrange-casio preset sounds from some 'best of the 80s' library set.

Drums and bass are as good as the band has been, but the keyboards(specifically the sounds used) feel like an oversimplification to me. I think to make up for the lost interesting bits of no guitars, the keyboardist might actually need to use both hands, even though it is still kind of impressive that he can one-hand the drums and do the keys. I just feel like the sound suffers.

Some of this is clearly, however, simply my anti-80sThrowback viewpoint. I would have preferred very much, if they had instead mined the late nineties for their electronic sample set.

Industrial noise from... David Bowie in 1976? This is pretty damn cool.

I get that, I do. The keyboard sounds are, well... Like the sound of most things from the '80s. I love the music of the period, but its sonics often leave a lot to be desired, synth or otherwise. The late '90s saw the resurgence of classic analog synths, as well as some worthwhile VAs- Nord Lead, Access Virus, Waldorf MicroWave instantly spring to mind.

I have no beef with referencing '80s stuff in writing, arranging or playing, but sound-wise... It leaves something to be desired.

I've only listened to the record once so far- I forgot it was out, honestly, and hadn't checked it 'til last night. So I'll reserve judgement 'til it gets a couple more listens, but generally yes: guitars, please, and less twee keyboard sounds.

Though, i do admittedly also like a bit of compression wall from time to time...

The vox could use a bit less verb in spots tho.
